Prep Roundup: Elmwood’s Endicott wins Border Wars championship

DEFIANCE — At the Defiance Tri-State Border Wars wrestling tournament Dec. 29-30, Bowling Green wrestler Daniel Fields, Otsego’s Lee Borders and Elmwood wrestler Cannon Endicott won championships.

Endicott won a 175-pound weight class championship, taking a 6-3 decision over Franklin’s Manny Joseph.

At 144 pounds, Fields was pinned by Findlay’s Ethan Mitchell in 30 seconds in the championship match and at 175 pounds,

At 157, Borders lost to Berkshire wrestler Josh Brown by a 6-2 decision in the championship.

BG wrestler Dominick Burch finished third, pinning Bryan’s Zain Bell in 4:33 at 285 pounds.

Perrysburg 59, Toledo St. Ursula 52

TOLEDO — Four players reached double figures as Perrysburg came from behind to defeat St. Ursula, 59-52, in a non-league girls basketball game Monday.

Gibbs scored 19, Chloe Kilbride scored 14, Kallie Thames scored 12 and Hayley Griggs scored 10 points to lead the Yellow Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets have won six of their last seven games to improve to 7-3 on the season while St. Ursula falls to 4-6.

Perrysburg trailed 32-29 at halftime but outscored the Arrows 30-20 in the second half. In the fourth quarter Kilbride and Thames each hit three-point shots, and three players combined to go 5-for-6 at the line.

Kilbride, Griggs and Thames finished with two three-point goals apiece, and Perrysburg, which had just eight turnovers to the Arrows’ 12, went 9-for-14 at the line.

Wrigley Takats and Ayla Turks added two points each for Perrysburg.

Grace DeFoe led St. Ursula with 18 points, including two treys and going 8-for-12 at the line. Carlee Wyczynski scored 12 points, including two triples. The Arrows made nine three-point goals, including four in the first quarter to grab a 19-16 lead.

Julie Reichert scored nine points, Haley Glass scored seven points and Ashley Zawisza added six points for the Arrows.
