Prep roundup: Walendzak a first team All-Ohioan

University of Toledo-bound Perrysburg 5-foot-11, 205-pound senior running back Connor Walendzak is a first team Division I All-Ohioan, according to the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.

Two other Perrysburg players, Jack Borer, a 6-3, 185-pound senior wide receiver and 6-4, 285-pound senior offensive lineman Grant Zimmerly, are second team.

Matt McEwen, a 6-3, 185-pound Perrysburg senior, is an honorable mention All-Ohioan at defensive back.

Bowling Green 6-2, 200-pound senior Evan Brandt is a D-III honorable mention all-state linebacker.

Bobcats, Eagles have multiple winners

The Bowling Green girls swim team defeated Eastwood 131-22, Ayersville 140-10, and Maumee Valley 140-12, but lost to Anthony Wayne, 104-82, at the Bowling Green State University Aquatics Center Tuesday.

The BG boys defeated Ayersville, 97-42, but fell to AW, 104-70. The multiple team event was held as one swim meet, but scored as dual meets.

The Eastwood boys fell to Maumee Valley, 61-49, and to Ayersville, 55-47, while the Eastwood girls defeated Maumee Valley, 42-16, Patrick Henry, 42-9, and Van Buren, 38-28.

The BG 200-yard medley relay team of senior Maddy Desmond, juniors Ela Ostrowski and Maggie Layne and freshman Melanie Long won in 2:00.72, defeating an AW team that crossed in 2:10.08.

The BG boys 200 medley relay team, seniors Aaron Mejiritski and Alex Alvarex-Munoz and juniors Aiden HIldebrand and Alex Xu, won in 1:54.48, defeating a MV team (2:00.58).

Eastwood sophomore Eric Sander won the boys 200 freestyle, finishing in 2:02.24 to top Maumee Valley freshman Freddy Muler (2:04.5).

Eastwood senior Ian Sander won the 100 butterfly, finishing in 56.79 to defeat BG’s Xu (1:01.91). Ian Sander also won the 100 backstroke, finishing in 1:01.57 to beat second place AW junior Caleb Grubbs (1:06.76).

BG senior Maddy Desmond won the girls 50 freestyle, finishing in 26.06 to top Van Buren junior Abby Leatherman (26.87). Desmond also won the 100 freestyle, crossing in 57.94 to defeat second place AW senior Amelia Blakely (58.51).

BG went one-two in the 100 breaststroke with senior Kallie Billiot winning 1:23.24 and senior Kelsey Sargent finishing in 1:23.98.

The BG girls won the 400 freestyle relay, finishing in 4:05.08 to defeat second place AW (4:19.69). BG team members were Ostrowski, Desmond, Layne and freshman Pressli Krupp.

The Eastwood boys 400 relay team of Sander, senior Jasper Price and sophomores Eric Sander and A.J. O’Brien, won in 3:47.89, defeating AW (3:52.15).

Bowling Green 48, Sylvania Northview 24

Bowling Green wrestling coach Joe Nauman said the Bobcats “showed a great team effort” defeating visiting Northview Wednesday, 48-24, in a Northern Lakes League match.

Bobcats pinning their opponents were Cohen Lewis, Landon Deiter, Daniel Fields, Paul Archer, Colton Keefe, Jackson Shafer, Jacob Baumgardner and Dominick Burch.

Lake 43, Fostoria 24

Lake defeated Fostoria, 43-24, in a Northern Buckeye Conference wrestling match Wednesday.

At 132 pounds, Lake wrestler Micah Balsmeyer defeated Fostoria’s Gulmaro Tovias-Vargas by pin, and at 165, Lake wrestler Isiah Reeder won a 14-5 major dec;ision over Silas Raney.

At 215, Lake wrestler Ryan Ranes won a 4-3 decision over Trenton Kirby, and Lake wrestlers Mason Snyder (106), Ricardo Lecki (113), Vince Barton (126), Damion Penske (138) and Walker Howell (175) won by forfeit.

Fostoria winners were Matthew Balderama (150), James Simms (157), Jose Garcia (190) and Binico Flores (285), all winning by fall over Lake’s Anthony Adams, Anthony Anzaldua, Xayden Wilkes and Christian Snipes.

Woodmore 45, Otsego 24

ELMORE — Woodmore defeated Otsego, 45-24, in a Northern Buckeye Conference wrestling match Wednesday.

Otsego’s Owen Kasza pinned Aidien Cordy in 3:47 to win the 126 pound match, and at 157, Otsego wrestler pinned Landon Rich in one minute to win at 157 pounds.

Otsego wrestlers Caleb Henderson (138) and Carter Hartman (144) won by forfeit.

Woodmore winners were Jack Caldwell (165), Bailey Jendrzejak (175), Jacob Roginski (190), Eli Wolph (215), Tyler Runkle (285), Matt Caldwell (106), Gavin Herrig (132) and Brant Deal (150), taking five matches by forfeit.

Other Otsego wrestlers were Brayden Sadler (165), Diego Henderson (215), Jake Limes (132) and Caeden Henderson (138).

Eastwood 49, Genoa 38

PEMBERVILLE — Amelia Ward scored 14 points and Kayla Buehler added 10 points as Eastwood girls basketball defeated Genoa, 49-38, in a Northern Buckeye Conference game Tuesday.

The Eagles trailed 10-9 after one quarter and the game was tied at 20-20 going into halftime, but Eastwood outscored the Comets, 19-11, in the third quarter to begin pulling away.

Eastwood improves to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the NBC while Genoa falls to 1-4 and 0-3.

Ward scored eight of her points and Saylor King had two three-point goals in that third period to make the difference.

Paige Hoodlebrink and Jordan Jensen scored eight points each, King scored seven, and Kyrie Henline added two points for the Eagles.

The Eagles were 16-for-44 (36%) from the floor and 15-for-21 (71%) from the free throw line, while committing just 11 turnovers.

Genoa was 14-for-46 (30%) and 9-for-12 (75%) from the line, and had one three-point goal to Eastwood’s two, both by King.

Addisyn Moritz scored a game-high 22 points, Keira Combs had six points, Emerson Bickel and Molly Coleman scored four apiece, and Gabby Lopez added two points for the Comets.

Woodmore 70, Otsego 29

TONTOGANY — Macey Bauder scored 20 points, including 15 in the first quarter as Woodmore raced to a 28-5 lead in the opening stanza, then won 70-29, in Northern Buckeye Conference action.

Kara Schneider scored 15 and Cameron Quisno added 11 points for the Wildcats, who are 4-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the league. Otsego is 1-6 and 0-3.

For Otsego, Sophie Dimmick scored nine points on three 3-point goals, Samantha Lehr scored seven, Jocelyn Cornell scored three and Rylee Brown added two points.

Alayna Hahn scored eight, Jordan Beam and Abby Sandrock scored six apiece, and Camille Strong and Madi Hammer added two apiece to round out the Wildcats’ scoring.
