Falcons avenge loss to Eagles, win in four sets

YPSILANTI, Mich. — Bowling Green State University volleyball picked up a 25-23, 25-16, 24-26, 25-20 win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday.

A late 6-0 run in the fourth set was able to swing the score and the match in favor of the Falcons. The win moves the Falcons to 14-8 on the season; they are 9-2 within the Mid-American Conference.

“Today was so much more than simply executing our game plan,” BGSU coach Danijela Tomic said. “Playing the same opponent on their home court less than 24 hours ago after a heartbreaking loss, required a lot of mental toughness and pride.

“We found a way to play with a chip on our shoulders and showed that we learned a valuable lesson. We are very proud of our team and who we are becoming on this journey we are taking together.”

On the attack, 6-foot-1 sophomore middle hitter Mia Tyler led the way for BGSU with a career-high 17 kills.

Six-foot freshman outside hitter Lauryn Hovey followed closely with 12 kills, in addition to 14 assists for one of two BGSU double-doubles, plus Hovey had two aces.

Junior setter Jaden Walz added to the effort with the second Falcon double-double (26 assists, 11 digs) while senior libero Yalianiz Torres hit the 20-dig mark for the second consecutive match with 23.

BGSU 6-1 junior middle blocker Alexis Mettille also registered a career-high for kills with eight. The eight kills came on 13 attempts without errors for a .615 hitting percentage. Mettille added a team-high four blocks with one solo and three assists.

Katelyn Meyer, a 5-10 senior outside hitter, produced a team-high 42 attack attempts for the match, landing 10 for the Falcons.

Petra Indrova, a 6-0 senior outside hitter, finished the match with 30 attack attempts, bringing her career total to 3,338. That mark puts Indrova inside the Top 10 all-time for career attack attempts.

The Falcons will return home next weekend to host Ball State on Friday and Toledo on Saturday.

The match against Ball State will be the Pink Game for the Falcons while Saturday against Toledo will be Voll-oween.
