OTTAWA LAKE, Mich. — The defending state champion Perrysburg girls cross country team took seven of the top eight spots to win the Northern Lakes League meet Saturday at Whiteford Valley Golf Club.
The Perrysburg boys team finished as league runners-up and both Bowling Green teams finished third in the eight-team field.
In the girls race, Perryssburg sophomore Ava Beeks (18:29.8) finished first, followed by Perrysburg sophomore Natalie Sanders (18:56.4), Perrysburg junior Hannah Kersten (19:03.4), and Perrysburg senior Annasophia Gower (19:21.7).
Maumee sophomore Lucy Porter (19:28.6) was fifth, followed by three more Perrysburg runners in junior Sydney Daudelin (19:30.2), junior Taylor Moody (19:40.8), and senior Sage Colon (19:49.5).
Every Perrysburg runner earns first team All-NLL honors except Colon, who at eighth place is the highest runner to earn second team.
Perrysburg scored 16 points, followed by Sylvania Southview (96), BG (100), Sylvania Northview (101), Anthony Wayne (119), Napoleon (138), Springfield (187), and Maumee (208).
The BG girls were paced by sophomore Annie Oberlander (ninth, 19:55.5) and sophomore Averie Crawford (tenth, 20:20.3) who both earned second team all-league honors.
BG sophomore Natalie Neeson (21:00.8) finished 20th, earning her third team honors.
BG sophomore Shelby Janes (26th, 21:21.9), freshman Lizzie Amspoker (35th, 22:01.3), and sophomore Ava Peper (39th, 22:17.1) completed the Bobcats’ top five.
BG’s Novinsky second
OTTAWA LAKE, Mich. — Bowling Green junior Adian Novinsky (15:56.4) broke the 16-minute mark to finish in second place in the Northern Lakes League boys cross country race. His race earned him first team all-league honors.
BG’s second team all-league honors went to sophomore Erek Kendrick (16:32.1) for his ninth-place finish and third team honors went to sophomore Sam Challu (17:03.4) who finished 18th and senior Evan Romero (17:15.1) who finished 21st.
Freshman Landon Fry rounded out BG’s top five with a 25th place finish in the race of 56 runners
Anthony Wayne, led by first place junior Connor Long (15:44), won the boys race with 37 points, followed by Perrysburg (45) and BG (75).
Rounding out NLL team scores were Northview (76), Southview (130), Springfield (147), Maumee (218) and Napoleon (237).
For Perrysburg, sophomore Anthony Clark finished third in 16:05. Joining Clark on the first team All-NLL was senior Andrew Beeks (fifth, 16:20.7). ‘
Yellow Jackets on the second team All-NLL were junior Ethan Laeng (eighth, 16:28.6) and freshman Brody Bauman (13th, 16:46). Senior Carter Fry finished third team All-NLL (16th, 16:49.7).
Lake earns share of NBC title
MILLBURY — Lake boys soccer concluded its regular season with a 6-0 win over Woodmore to finish unbeaten at 13-0-3 and win a share of the Northern Buckeye Conference championship.
Lake and Genoa (13-1-3) both finished 8-0-2 in the NBC, tying each other twice.
In the final win over Woodmore, Gael Rios scored twice and Kaiden Reed, Zachary Buschmann, Jackson Gladieux and Figgy Garcia added one goal apiece.
Reed had two assists and Buschmann, Micah Balsmeyer, Brady Hayward, and Rios had one assist each for the Flyers. Holden Wodrich and Simone Renna each had a save for Lake.
Kaiden Reed led the Flyers this season with 55 points on 18 goals and 23 assists, followed by Rios, who had 20 goals and four assists.
Gladieux had nine goals and nine assists, Greyson Reed had 10 goals and one assist, Hayward had five goals and three assists, Avery Alder had five goals and one assist and Preston Snyder had four goals and three assists.
Lake opens Division II tournament play on Thursday playing the winner of Wauseon (9-6-2) and Oak Harbor (4-12-2) at 7 p.m. at Lake Community Stadium.
Bowling Green 3, Norwalk 0
On the Bobcats’ floor Monday, Bowling Green swept Norwalk 25-20, 25-18, 25-20, to open the Division I volleyball tournament. BG is 14-9.
The next match for BG is on Wednesday night at Springfield, when the Bobcats take on Anthony Wayne at 7:30 p.m. for the right to advance to district play.
Against Norwalk, Talia Twigg had eight kills and one dig, Madison Cowan had eight kills, two aces, and 13 digs, Hanna Heinze had one ace, one dig, and one assist.
Francesca Meek had 16 digs, and two assists, Abigail Slembarski had one kill, one solo block, four aces, 7 digs and 23 assits, Lindsay Eisel had two digs, and Halle Shepherd had two aces and six digs.
Macyn Dean-Scheele had two kills and one block assist, Jamie Sayen had three kills and one dig, Brooke Lavey had two kills and one dig and Tara Hastings had four kills, one block assist, and three digs for the Bobcats.
Otsego 5, Port Clinton 2
TONTOGANY—Otsego boys opened the Division II tournament Monday with a 5-2 victory over Port Clinton behind Markel Aranbarri’s two goals.
Also for the Knights, Andrea Grandmaison, Hudson Thomas and Travis Merrill scored one goal apiece.
Port Clinton’s season ends at 7-6-4. The Knights, 10-7, advance to take on Bowling Green (8-7-2) at Bobcat Stadium Thursday at 5 p.m. for the right to advance to the district tournament.
Maumee 7, Rossford 0
MAUMEE — At Kazmaier Stadium Monday, Maumee sophomore Blake Wagener scored four goals as the Panthers defeated Rossford, 7-0, to open the Division II boys soccer tournament.
Seniors Payton Greenlease, Zach Gronau, and junior Kaysen Jones scored one goal apiece for the Panthers.
Rossford’s season ends at 2-14. Landen Reiter led the Bulldogs in scoring with 12 points on four goals and four assists, Justin Bayer had four goals and one assist, and Andres Trejo had three goals and one assist.
In goal for the Bulldogs, Billy Graffius had 110 saves and Alex Vargo had 37 saves. Maumee advances with a 10-8 record.
Perrysburg’s Craig leads Lourdes
BRIGHTON, Mich.— Behind the play of Perrysburg’s Hannah Craig, the Lourdes University women’s golf team wrapped up the fall portion of its season on Monday, finishing in fourth place at a tightly bunched Cleary Invitational held at Oak Point Country Club in Brighton, Mich.
Craig led the way for Lourdes firing an 89 to finish in a tie for eighth place on the 5,871-yard, par-71 course. Morgan Altenbach (Lima Shawnee) also posted a top-10 effort with her round of 90.
The Gray Wolves posted a team score of 369, just eight shots behind champion Siena Heights, which finished at 361.
Cleary was second at 363 followed by Madonna (365) and the Gray Wolves. Aquinas placed fifth with a 376-stroke total.
“Our ladies played as well as they could but just ran out of gas battling the brutal cold, wind, and rain,” Lourdes coach Gil Guerrero said. “I am extremely proud of their effort.”
