The club met at 7 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the home of Deb Krukemyer. President Tracey Briggs called the meeting to order. The minutes of the September meeting were approved as read. There was no treasurer’s report.
Letters of thanks from the 2022 Mental Culture Club scholarship recipients were read. The recipients were Jada Jensen and Audrey Sandberg.
The November meeting will be hosted by Karina Claydon. Members are asked to bring a sample of their favorite china pattern.
Members answered the roll call telling whether or not they knew someone who was adopted when they were growing up. Following this Chris Budke reviewed the books, “Before We Were Yours” by Lisa Wingate and “Before and After” by Judy Christie and Lisa Wingate. These two books deal with Tennessee Children’s Home Society of Memphis and the scandalous crimes perpetrated by the director, Georgia Tann, who ran the TCHS in Memphis from 1923-49. The investigation of her home brought about legislation mandating the licensing of boarding homes in Tennessee.
