The flash, bang and boom of fireworks will light up the skies for the Fourth of July holiday.
The Bowling Green Community Fireworks will be held Thursday at dusk at the Bowling Green State University
Intramural Fields.
Prior to the fireworks display, the Bowling Green Area Community Band will perform a free
patriotic-themed concert near BGSU’s Mileti Alumni Center at 8 p.m.
During the event, Doyt Perry Stadium will be open, and children may play on the field prior to the
fireworks, restrooms will be open, and the fireworks may be viewed form the east side of the stadium.

No sparklers or fireworks will be allowed in the stadium or on the grounds of BGSU.
Following the event, the Bowling Green Police Division will implement a traffic exit strategy to aid in
traffic flow. In order to maximize safety and efficiency of travel, police will be directing traffic
onto predetermined routes.
After the fireworks, Mercer Road will be closed between Stadium Drive and Ridge Street. In conjunction,
the police will be requiring traffic to exit via the following routes:
• North exit route (Ice Arena lot, Stadium Drive) will be directed north to Poe Road or west to Merry.

• South exit route (lots to the south of the stadium) will be directed to Wooster via Mercer or Alumni
Drive.
In other cases, depending on traffic patterns, police may be directing vehicles to the "outer
belt" of the city to aid in traffic movement. For example, Clough Street traffic will be directed
to Napoleon to reduce traffic on Wooster Street.
Event attendees, or those traveling in the Bowling Green area on the evening on Thursday, are encouraged
to utilize outlying routes and entrances to Interstate 75 at U.S. 6 or Ohio 582 in lieu of the Wooster
Entrance for I-75.
The rain date for the fireworks is Friday.
In case of severe weather during the event, indoor sheltering will be provided on the BGSU campus in the
bathrooms at Doyt Perry Stadium and at the Stroh Center.
In Perrysburg, fireworks will start Thursday at 10 p.m. at Fort Meigs State Memorial, 29100 W. River Road

In Perrysburg, music, games, musket demonstrations, and cannon firings will be held at Fort Meigs in
observance of Independence Day on Friday.
Re-enactors dressed as soldiers and civilians from the War of 1812 will provide hands-on activities and
weapons demonstrations. Among the events will be a recreation of the original 1813 Independence Day
celebration at 2 p.m., including cannon firing, the original toasts to the nation given in 1813, and
fife and drum music.
The site will be open from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday. Event admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, $4
for children (6 to 18 years), and free for Ohio Historical Society members and children five and under.

In Fremont, the Hayes Presidential Center with celebrate with red, white and BOOM.
The firing of Civil War cannons punctuates a patriotic concert by the Toledo Symphony Concert Band as the
Hayes Presidential Center presents its Independence Day Concert from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday. This outdoor
concert takes place on the grounds of Spiegel Grove – the estate of 19th U.S. President Rutherford B.
Hayes. Admission is free.
This year, the concert will be conducted by Bruce Moss, director of bands at Bowling Green State
University. He replaces Sam Szor, who had conducted the Independence Day Concert since its start in
1997. Moss will introduce a new selection of songs that continues the event’s patriotic thread. Veterans
in the audience are invited to stand when the theme of their branch of the armed services is played.
The concert’s signature feature – performance of the 1812 Overture – remains unchanged. Costumed Civil
War reenactors from Gillmor Ordinance are on hand to fire a series of cannon at the song’s finale. Bring
your own seat and come prepared for the weather. Free parking is available on the grounds and adjoining
city streets. Attendees are encouraged to show their patriotic spirit by wearing red, white and blue
clothing.
The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center is located at the corner of Hayes and Buckland avenues,
Fremont, Ohio. The facility is affiliated with the Ohio Historical Society. Check the Hayes Presidential
Center website www.rbhayes.org for a complete list of year-round special events.
