BG man indicted for assault after allegedly biting ear off

A Bowling Green man has been indicted for assault after he allegedly bit another’s ear off.

A Wood County grand jury on May 1 indicted Jesus Vasquez Garcia, 56, for felonious assault, a second-degree felony.

On April 15, he allegedly got into a verbal argument in a downtown bar. As the second male exited the front door, witnesses state Garcia ran to the back door and got into a physical altercation with the man on East Court Street. During the fight, Garcia allegedly bit a large portion of the other man’s left ear off. As officers approached, Garcia was seen tossing an item, believed to be the other man’s ear, into the sewer drain.

The grand jury also indicted:

• Roger Blaine McKenzie, 65, of Bowling Green and currently in jail, for burglary, a third-degree felony. On April 17, he allegedly left Walmart on Fremont Pike in Perrysburg without paying for $244.92 in merchandise. He had previously been trespassed from Walmart twice, most recently in March.

• Sharon Kay Galbraith, 38, of Wayne and currently in jail, for receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony; and operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse of a combination of them (OVI), a first-degree misdemeanor. On Dec. 22, she allegedly received or disposed of a Dodge Ram truck while knowing it had been stolen and did allegedly operate it while under the influence.

• Christopher Leon Grace Sr.,51, Toledo, for theft, a fifth-degree felony. On April 8, he allegedly removed more than $1,000 in merchandise from Home Depot without consent. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

• Dean Allen Neff, 45, Millbury, for theft from a person in a protected class, a fifth-degree felony. On Jan. 8, he allegedly accepted $450 for a gutter job he never completed. The alleged victim is an elderly person.

• Daniel Vincent Warner, 31, Maumee, for kidnapping, a first-degree felony; felonious assault, a second-degree felony; and domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor. On March 10-11 on North Sharon Hills Drive in Perrysburg, he allegedly restrained the liberty of a family member for the purpose of terrorizing her or inflicting serious ham. While armed with a knife, he allegedly threatened his own life and caused the alleged victim to believe he would cause serious physical ham to her.

• Gerald Antwuane Green Hunt, 38, of Toledo and currently in jail, for failure to comply with an order or signal of a police office, a third-degree felony; felonious assault, a first-degree felony; and vandalism, a fifth-degree felony. On April 8 as law enforcement was patrolling on Crossroads Parkway in Rossford, they randomly ran a license check on a Lincoln SUV and were informed the owner was wanted on three warrants in Georgia and one in Michigan. A female got in the vehicle and appeared to travel at a speed of 50-60 through the parking lot. Law enforcement activated overhead lights and the vehicle failed to stop and entered the southbound lanes of Crossroads Parkway and fled northbound at speeds of 80-90 mph. At the Sportsman’s Drive roundabout, Hunt struck a patrol vehicle, causing an injury to the officer’s elbow. The pursuit continued onto Ohio 20, where Hunt again entered the wrong way of travel. The vehicle continued onto eastbound River Road in Perrysburg and swerved at a patrol vehicle, striking it again. The SUV came to a stop, and Hunt fled on foot, refused to stop and was later tased and taken into custody.

• Devon Michael Vaughn, 31, of Toledo and currently in jail, for failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony; grand theft of a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony; and theft, a first-degree misdemeanor. On Feb. 16, he allegedly wrestled the manager of Family Farm and Home in Northwood over a power washer he had taken out of the store through an emergency exit. He left in a Dodge truck that was confirmed stolen in Perrysburg. He failed to obey the order of a police office for a traffic stop and fled northbound on I-280.

• Elizabeth Ruth Franks, 40, Fremont, for two counts of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse of a combination of them (OV), both fourth-degree felonies and with specifications for additional prison time for repeat OVI offenders. On Dec. 12, she allegedly operated a vehicle while under the influence. She has been conflicted on five OVI charges within 20 years, in 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2019 in Sandusky County, and 2015 in Erie County.

William Scott Ramirez, 38, Toledo, for aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. On March 10 in Northwood, he allegedly was found in possession of a straw and white powdery substance he identified as cocaine.

• Anthony D. Chandler, 37, Lima, for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse or a combination of them (OVI), a first-degree misdemeanor; and domestic violence, a fifth-degree felony. On March 3, a vehicle was observed stopped on the shoulder of I-75 near milepost 190. It appeared a potential domestic violence incident had occurred as the alleged victim had several physical injuries to her face, neck, chest and hand. Chandler had a fat lip and a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his person. He failed several field sobriety tests and refused a blood alcohol test.

• Co-defendants James Henry Meadows III, 40, and Michelle A. Meadows, 49, both of Oak Harbor, for theft, a fifth-degree felony. From Feb. 9 to March 4, they allegedly stole more than $1,000 in merchandise from Lowe’s.

• Ashley Marie Phillips, 37, Toledo, for theft, a fifth-degree felony. On Dec. 28, she allegedly deprived Kohne Camera in Perrysburg of property valued at $3,655 after not returning items she rented.

• Joshua Walter Hagemyer, 42, North Baltimore, for trespass in a habitation when a person is present or likely to be present, a fourth-degree felony. On Feb. 26, he was recorded on security camera in a building in the 100 block of South Main Street. He entered through an unlocked rear door and took tools while the building’s owner was in the upstairs apartment.

• Timothy Michael Sprott, 22, Toledo, for aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony. On March 24, at 4:20 a.m., Bowling Green police were called to the 200 block of South Maple Street for a potential burglary in progress. A man in the home told police Sprott had kicked in a door, pushed him against a door, then ran off down the street. Sprott was gone on arrival, was later arrested, taken to jail, and posted bond.

• Madani M. Diarra, 24, Bowling Green, for felonious assault, a second-degree felony; and domestic violence and aggravated menacing, both first-degree felonies. On April 10, Diarra allegedly caused serious physical harm to a family member and led the woman to believe they would cause her or her property harm.

• Jamie R. Gonzales, 55, of Toledo and currently in jail, for trespass in a habitation when a person is present or likely to be present, a fourth-degree felony. On April 27, he allegedly by force or deception trespassed in a habitation when someone was present.

In a second indictment, Gonzales has been accused of two counts of failure to register, both fourth-degree felonies. In 2015, he was convicted of public indecency in Wood County and was required to register his place of residence from Feb. 1 to April 30 and April 13 -22.
