ROSSFORD — Scarlett Williams delivered a three-run double in walk-off fashion Monday to give the Rossford softball team a 15-5 win over Fostoria in six innings.

“I knew we really needed it,” Williams said. “We wanted to get out of here especially with it raining.”

The Bulldogs (5-11, 2-5 NBC) picked up the win in come-from-behind fashion after trailing 5-2, compiling 13 runs over the final three frames.

The rally started with six runs in the fourth inning as Rossford used an RBI single from Ary Bond and an RBI grounder from Layla Nowak, along with a steal of home from Camryn Almester, to take an 8-5 lead.

Rossford had six stolen bases as a team.

“It was kind of tough because it was raining really bad,” Williams said. “We were struggling in the field, but our strongest thing is being good hitters, so we know we can get back in any game with one rally.”

The Bulldogs stretched the lead to seven in the fifth with an RBI bunt single from Nowak and an RBI triple from Williams.

Bond twirled a complete game for Rossford in the circle, allowing just three hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

“Ary pitched well,” Rossford head coach Tom Kralovic said. “We’re asking her to pitch and she’s normally our third baseman. She gets a little frustrated with her hitting because she’s normally about a .500 hitter, but I told her all we need her to do is be a leader, and her hitting will come.”

Three of the runs that Rossford allowed were unearned but they made two very nice defensive plays to prevent further damage, including diving stops at short from Caitlyn Extine at short in the fifth and Norah Demory at second in the sixth.

“I think we’re playing better as a team,” Kralovic said. “Those are the plays we need. We’re going to hit the ball, but we have to make the plays (defensively).”

Williams finished 3-for-5 with four RBI and a pair of runs. Liv Hussar, who walked to load the bases in the sixth, finished 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Nowak, who had a team-high three runs, and Bond each tacked on a pair of runs knocked in.

The two early runs for Rossford came on a steal of home from Williams in the first and an RBI groundout from Nowak in the second.

“I think we’re getting better and better the more good pitchers we see,” Kralovic said. “The upperclassmen have seen a lot of these pitchers, but the underclassmen haven’t seen a lot of fast, rise ball pitchers. They’re good athletes and will adjust but going from U-14 to varsity is tough.”

Fostoria fell to 0-11 (0-8 NBC) with the loss.
