Eastwood commends teacher for eclipse program

PEMBERVILLE — The Eastwood Board of Education commended teacher Cale Hover for the solar eclipse presentation given to both middle school and high school students.

The board met April 15.

The presentation showed students Hover’s experiences with the previous eclipse while teaching them additional information in an engaging way. Multiple parents responded postively via email, stating that their children were retaining the knowledge.

The board also:

• Learned Maggie Ramsey was chosen as April Student of the Month.

• Commended Eric Sander for earning All-Ohio in swimming, finishing 11th in the 200mm individual medley at the OHSAA state swimming championships.

• Approved resignations from Jeff Dierker (high school head custodian) effective March 20, Sandra Minarik (playground aide) effective March 22, Tiffany Carter (cook) effective April 2, Deanne Corken (head cheerleading coach) for the 2024-25 school year, Leesa Caris (assistant cheerleading coach) effective for the 2024-25 school year.

• Granted a continuing teaching contract to Jonathan Roode

• Gave a one-year limited teaching contracts to Sam Cotterman; and to Sam Aubree Schroeder, Alexandria Zieber and Bryce Boyer effective the 2024-25 school year, pending licensure certification

• Gave a two-year administrative contract to Emily Mennitt as elementary assistant principal at an annual salary of $92,000.

• Approved a memorandum of understanding with the Wood County Sheriff’s Office for SRO/DARE deputy services at a cost of $34,320.

• Approved a service agreement with Campbell Mechanical Services from May 1, 2024, to May 1, 2025 in the amount of $32,224.

• Accepted donations of $50 from Union Bank to After Prom; $335 to Eastwood softball from Inventory Trading Company; $124 to boys track, $856.84 for a T-shirt cannon and accessories, $3,750 for wrestling mat, $1573.75 for volleyball carts and volleyballs, all from the Eastwood Athletic Boosters; $50 for broadcasting from Roy D. Tooman, LLC; $100 for broadcasting from Gearhart Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, Inc.; and $1,804 from Dan Magrum to the Eastwood Band Majorettes in memory of Laurie Magrum.

The next regular board meeting will be May 20 at 6 p.m. at Pemberville Elementary School.
