Lake Twp. ball fields in poor shape

MILLBURY — The Lake Township Board of Trustees were informed that the baseball diamonds at Fireside Park are in bad shape.

The board met on April 16.

Chairwoman Melanie Bowen-Greenwald stated that she recently attended a committee meeting in Millbury when she heard of the ballpark’s condition.

“The baseball diamonds at Fireside Park were put in during my old term (on the board) and are about 15-20 years old. I was told at a meeting the other night that nobody is using them,” she said. “The boys are all going to Walbridge to play, and the girls go to Millbury’s park. If we’re not going to use them (and they’ve deteriorated) then we might as well pull them out and make soccer fields.”

Resident Bill Keller raised the issue of mowed grass on the roads being a safety hazard.

“When you mow your grass, do not blow it in the road,” Bowen-Greenwald said. “It is dangerous, and it is against the law. A lot of people do it and they don’t pay any attention.”
