A former Wood County man has been sentenced to prison for sharing obscene matter with law enforcement officers posing as minors.

Michael Jason Vasko, 41, of Archibold and formerly of Perrysburg, appeared April 22 in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Molly Mack.

He was indicted in November for four counts of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles and three counts importuning, all fifth-degree felonies.

In March, he pleaded guilty to two counts of each felony charge.

On Oct. 17 and Oct. 19, he presented to a law enforcement officer posing as a juvenile material that was obscene.

On Oct. 16 and Oct. 17, he solicited a law enforcement officer posing as someone between the ages of 13 and 16 to engage in sex.

Terms of bond that was set at his arraignment in November, he was to have no contact with any electronic devices.

The state in December filed a motion to revoke bond after learning that Vasko made phone calls while in jail detailing how he would purchase new electronic devices upon his release from jail. According to court documents, once released, he went to Walmart in Napoleon and purchased numerous electronic devices, including a laptop, cell phone and SIM card.

Prior to the charges in Wood County, Vasko had been indicted on Oct. 26 in Defiance County for two counts of importuning and one count of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles.

After he was released on an own recognizance bond in Defiance County, he contacted a juvenile undercover officer in Perrysburg, said Mack, which led to these charges.

“Despite your high education and respected work history, you find it very difficult to follow the law and court orders,” Mack said.

She imposed a 24-month prison sentence in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

Upon his release, Vasko will be required to register as a Tier I sex offender, which will require him to register every 12 months for 15 years.
