Teen arrested for theft of a barstool

Bowling Green police were dispatched this morning to the 100 block of East Wooster Street for a theft offense.

Mathis Lymond, 18, Monroe, Michigan, was arrested for theft, furnishing false information to obtain alcohol, underage/under the influence, and obstructing official business.

Lymond was found by police near the 200 block of East Wooster Street. On multiple occasions, he refused to provide his personal information.

Lymond stated that he was returning a barstool that had been reported stolen to a friend’s house but was unable to provide the last name, address, or phone number of the friend. He was observed carrying the barstool on the city’s downtown cameras.

Police detected the smell of alcohol on Lymond and asked how he got into the bar without a driver’s license, He stated that he knew a bouncer who let them in without showing ID.

After displaying multiple signs of impairment, Lymond was placed under arrest.

When searched, officers found a fake driver’s license, Lymond’s real license, and a wristband stating he was over the age of 21.

Lymond later told police that he was pressured by a friend to steal the barstool and apologized on multiple occasions.

Lymond was then transported to jail and the barstool, valued at $50, was returned.
