Bowling Green softball scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on their way to defeating visiting Sylvania Southview, 8-2, in Northern Lakes League action Wednesday.

“It was a team win. We came together,” BG coach Cassie Nauman said. “I don’t think we’re done yet — I think we have things to work on and I think we have to improve, but I’m happy with the win.”

Junior Baylee Irvin led BG at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run, double, hard hit single, and two RBI to lead the Bobcats at the plate. She said the HR pitch was right in her wheelhouse.

“It was slower than normal but it was just like right down the middle, so I just remember my coaches tell me to set my feet and drive it,” Irvin said.

Meanwhile, BG junior pitcher Zoe Ziems got the complete game victory, striking out 10, walking none, allowing seven hits and two runs. She threw 96 pitches, including 69 strikes, while facing 28 batters.

“Our pitcher Zoe Ziems had a great game,” Nauman said. “At moments, I think she made great adjustments since the last time she pitched.

“I was happy to see that for her and I know she did it for her team. I know she’s going to take away what she adjusted today and it is going to help us in the future.”

BG also added single runs in the second and fifth innings, while the Cougars scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. BG outhit the Cougars, 8-7.

BG senior Samantha Trimpey was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, sophomore Hannah Sayler doubled and had an RBI, freshman Ella White had a base hit with two RBI and freshman Juliana Firsdon had base hit for the Bobcats.

Also getting RBIs for the Bobcats were Sayler, freshman Kylie Kubacki, and junior Hannah Yarger.

“I’m proud of us,” Irvin said. “All of our girls did well with their hitting — they all made good contact, we just need to make more adjustments at the plate.”

Senior Makenna Oates, senior Brynn Wilhelm and sophomore Marissa Bernal had stolen bases for BG, which left six base runners stranded compared to five by Southview.
