Recycle solar glasses after Monday’s eclipse

0

Bowling Green City Schools will recycle solar eclipse glasses that are still in good condition (without scratches, punctures, or torn).

Glasses can be dropped off at any Bowling Green schools location starting Tuesday. Community members can also bring them to the Astro Expo on April 23 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Bowling Green Middle School.

Bowling Green City Schools is working with Astronomers Without Borders (AWB) to be a collection hub for eclipse glasses recycling. The glasses will be vetted for reusability and distributed when there is another eclipse somewhere. They will be sent to those who need them for outreach and educational programs around the world, to bring eclipse glasses to people who may not otherwise have a safe way to view the eclipse directly. AWB has been sending solar glasses for annular and total solar eclipses worldwide since 2008.
