PERRYSBURG — Perrysburg City Council has hired a new municipal prosecutor.

At its April 2 meeting, council hired Khaled Elwardany. His most recent position was as assistant prosecutor in the Criminal Division of the Lucas County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, where he served for eight years. He obtained his law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law.

He replaces Chynna Fiferm who had been the chief prosecutor for the Perrysburg Municipal Court since 2018.

The city will apply for the SAFER grant for $2,602.750. This grant, if awarded, would fund the salary and benefits for six firefighters for a period of three years. After such time, the city would expect to support these positions through the general fund.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency offers the SAFER (Staffing For Adequate Fire And Emergency Response) Grant program to fire departments to enhance their ability to protect the public and minimize the risks from fires and related risks

Also approved was the purchase 10 additional Flock Safety Falcon Cameras which would be installed throughout the city. A number of these license-plate-reading cameras are already in use around the city and this purchase will allow for uniformity in software and enforcement. The cost for the purchase of 10 cameras is $30,000 with an additional $6,500 for their installation.
