Virginia Ann (Crandall) Hazel, age 87, of Luckey, OH, went home to be with the Lord on Friday March 29, 2024 at 3:16 pm at Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, OH.

She was born on March 2, 1937 to Clarence O. Crandall and Dorothy Mae (Timmerman) Green Crandall in Adrian, MI. She resided, and attended school and church, in Adrian until a tragic early morning fire in her home April 26, 1944 that resulted in the deaths of both parents, and two of her young sisters.

Surviving this fire, she was raised in Jerusalem Twp., OH then Oregon, OH, graduating from Clay High School May 29, 1956. (During her freshman through senior years there, she actively participated in its Bible Club / Youth for Christ organization.) She subsequently attended and graduated from The Northwestern Ohio Practical Nurse Training Center June 11, 1957, and officially became an Ohio licensed practical nurse September 20, 1957. It was around this time when she met the true love of her life, Ronald William Hazel, and the two were married on August 24, 1958 at Stony Ridge Methodist Church in Stony Ridge, OH.

The newlyweds lived for a short period in Perrysburg Twp., OH until purchasing their home in Luckey, where together they raised a son and daughter.

During her nursing career, Virginia was employed as an LPN at Riverside Hospital in Toledo, OH and St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, OH. She later worked as a treatment nurse at Health Resources Development of Oregon in Oregon, OH, Eastview Nursing Home Oregon, OH, and Community Nursing Home in Bowling Green, OH. Over the years she also was employed in various capacities at several area restaurants, including Country Kitchen in Luckey, Burger King, Frisch’s Big Boy, Rally’s and Wendy’s in Bowling Green, Wendy’s in Perrysburg, OH, and in the kitchen at Portage Valley Nursing Home in Troy Twp., OH.

Sharing time with her husband, children, and extended family members gave her the greatest happiness and joy throughout her long life.

Left to mourn Virginia’s passing is her son: Robert William Hazel (wife Roxann) of Luckey, and daughter: Betty Jean (Hazel) Schulte (husband Charles) of Pemberville, OH, two grandchildren, one step-grandson, and three great-grandchildren.

Virginia is now reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband of 63 plus years Ronald, her parents Clarence and Dorothy, her sisters Frances L. Crandall, Hazel J. Crandall, and Viola M. Crandall, her brother Clarence Charles Crandall, and her half-sister Doris Mae (Green) Fischer.

Virginia will be laid to rest next to Ronald at a family committal service in Troy Township Cemetery in Luckey. Officiating will be Pastor Leroy Sholey. Those wishing to express a word of encouragement, share a memory or photo may do so at: www.marshfuneralhomes.com.
