Library hosts BGSU Art Song Recital

BGSU students will present an Art Song Recital on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Atrium at the Wood County District Public Library. During this recital, students present songs from classical and romantic periods, as well as songs by a 20th century composer and a living composer.

This recital is in preparation for the Dr. Marjorie Conrad Art Song Competition being held at BGSU.

In this competition, the vocal and piano competitors, all BGSU students, dress in formal concert attire and are required to show mastery of songs. While most classical voice students often aspire to become opera singers, art songs are a great way for singers and pianists to learn their craft while learning languages, styles, collaboration and poise.

Conrad’s generous gift to the BGSU College of Musical Arts led to the Dr. Marjorie Conrad Art Song Competition, first held in 2000. This special competition encourages enrolled BGSU students to approach classical art songs in a committed and intense manner to enhance their learning and artistic experiences.

Performers include:

• Audrey Martin, soprano and Isabella Brille, piano

• Laney Mitchell, soprano and Charles Ligus, piano

• Deja Jennings, soprano and Malik Halce, piano

• Joicy Carvalho, soprano and Apostolos Konstantakis, piano

• Trinity Peace Hines-Anthony, soprano and Apostolos Konstantakis, piano
