Meet local young artists and learn about space at the library

Join the Wood County District Public Library in celebrating young community artists with Big Universe, Tiny Art on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Bowling Green library Children’s Place.

Artwork by Bowling Green City Schools 4th and 5th grade students will be displayed in the Children’s Place during this tiny art reception. Families and community members are invited to see the art, meet the students, enjoy light refreshments and listen to a reading of The Astronaut Who Painted the Moon: The True Story of Alan Bean by Dean Robbins and Sean Rubin.

Meet bestselling author at the library

Join the Wood County District Public Library and Bowling Green State University in welcoming bestselling author Traci Sorell to Bowling Green on March 23 at 10 a.m. in the Bowling Green library Atrium.

Sorell has written numerous children’s, middle grade and young adult fiction, including Classified: The Secret Career of Mary Golda Ross, Cherokee Aerospace Engineer. She’ll discuss this work among many others and talk about her life experience as a Cherokee Nation citizen. There will also be a book discussion followed by a Q&A and book signing.

Sorell writes inclusive, award-winning historical and contemporary fiction and nonfiction in a variety of formats for young people. She is a two-time Sibert Medal and Orbis Pictus honoree and award-winning audiobook narrator and producer. Her first five books have received awards from the American Indian Library Association. Other accolades include Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor, International Literacy Association’s Social Justice Literature Award Winner, Reading The West’s Picture Book Winner, and many Best-of and Notables lists. In 2023, she shared Contenders: Two Native Baseball Players, One World Series, a Kirkus Reviews starred nonfiction picture book biography illustrated by Arigon Starr, and Mascot, a middle grade fiction novel-in-verse co-authored with Charles Waters.

Students can explore the solar system with Camp-in-a-Box

Camp-in-a-Box is a STEM-focused, hour-long program designed for students aged 8 and up at the Wood County District Public Library. Students can learn, explore and discover the solar system at the library with Camp-in-a-Box on March 25-28 at 1:30 p.m. each day.

Designed and funded by Ohio Learns 360 and the Ohio Department of Education, and made available to WCDPL by WBGU-PBS, students will learn about our solar system, the solar eclipse and the scientists who study it.
