Planning commission OKs city annexation request

The Planning Commission on Wednesday recommended that city council approve an annexation request and interim zoning for a property on Bishop Road.

The request concerned annexing approximately 2.965 acres located at 13055 Bishop Road, at the southeast corner of Bishop Road and North Dixie Highway, from Plain Township. The City of Bowling Green was the petitioner.

According to a memo to the commission from Planning Director Heather Sayler, the city is the property owner of the parcel and “the property is home to one of the city’s electric substations and is adjacent to the city corporation limit to the east.” The annexation petition was approved by the Wood County Commissioners on Feb. 8.

During Wednesday’s meeting, Sayler noted that the goal is to bring more of the city-owned properties which are adjacent to the city within the corporation limit.

The commission also recommended that council approve interim commercial zoning for the property, due to the amount of commercially-zoned property located around the parcel.

Both recommendations passed unanimously.
