Senior center hotsts ‘How about a Movie?’ series

The Wood County Committee on Aging will present five motion pictures Fridays in March at 1 p.m. for “How about a Movie?” matinees at the Bowling Green Senior Center, 140 S. Grove St.

Films will feature actors or actresses near the end of their careers produced as Feature Films for Families.

“The Last Brickmaker in America,” shown Friday, stars Sidney Poitier in this 2001 drama, reminiscent of his Oscar-winning performance in “Lilies of the Field” 38 years before.

The second film March 8, “The Secret,” is a 1992 drama starring Kirk Douglas as a grandfather who has kept a personal secret from his family.

The third movie March 15, “A Family for Joe,” is a 1990 drama/comedy starring Robert Mitchum as an older homeless man bribed to pose as grandfather for four juvenile children.

The fourth motion picture March 22, “The Story Lady,” is a 1991 family drama featuring Jessica Tandy as a senior woman seeking to establish her value by trying a new venture.

The final film March 29, “Gift of Love,” a 1999 biography/drama, stars Debbie Reynolds as a grandmother facing challenges in raising her grandson.
