Hair today, gone tomorrow

Bowling Green State University hosted the 14th annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation Head-Shaving Event Sunday.

The event raises funds for childhood cancer research. The goal was to raise $5,000 and shave more than 15 students and staff.

Funds are continuing to come in, but the Tuesday’s total was $4,369.

Twelve heads were shaved.

What started as a challenge 25 years ago has become the largest volunteer movement to save kids with cancer.

One in five children diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. will not survive. Those who do survive often suffer long-term effects from treatment too harsh for their developing bodies. As the largest charity funder of childhood cancer research grants, St. Baldrick’s Foundation is leading the charge to take childhood back from cancer.
