Eight champions lead Perrysburg to NLL wrestling title

TOLEDO—Perrysburg ran away with the Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division wrestling championship, scoring 312 points to defeat second place Toledo Whitmer (164½).

Perrysburg junior Marcus Blaze, a defending state champion, is the Buckeye Division Wrestler of the Year.

Blaze (38-1) won the 132 pound title by winning a 27-12 technical fall over Whitmer junior Jaiden Sarabia (28-6) at the 5:46 mark.

Findlay (141½) was third, folliowed by Anthony Wayne (70½) and Sylvania Northview (32).

Perrysburg had wrestlers reach the championship match in 13 of 14 weight classes, bringing home eight league titles.

In the 106 pounds championship match, Perrysburg sophomore Ayden Dodd (28-5) defeated Whitmer freshman A.J. Dubendorfer (32-9) by a 21-5 technical fall at 5:05 into the match.

At 113 pounds, Perrysburg freshman Grey Burnett (34-2) pinned Fremont Ross sophomore (Aidan Aidan Autullo 23-10) in 3:53 to win a league title.

Perrysburg sophomore Brody Bauman (27-9) won a 138-pound title by pinning Ross junior Jayce Frymire (24-12) in 1:42.

Perrysburg senior Diego Chavez (28-10) brought home a 144-pound championship with a 13-6 decision against Clay freshman Gabe McNally (17-9).

At 165 pounds, Perrysburg sophomore Shane Saito (26-10) won a 9-1 major decision against Findlay senior Austin Sertell (23-13) in the championship.

Perrysburg senior Caiden Nichols (16-8) won a 175-pound title with an 8-4 decision over Findlay junior Keegan Klotz (30-10).

At 190, Perrysburg junior Josh Takats (27-10) won a 20-5 major decision against Napoleon sophomore Tristan Merz (16-12) in the title match.

Perrysburg Buckeye Division runners-up were sophomore Alex Denkins (31-5) at 120, junior Alex Poll (16-13) at 150, senior Jake Wood (32-8) at 157, junior Ben Sawaya (20-13) at 215, and junior Eric Bush (30-10) at 285.
