Bobcats’ upset bid against Panthers slips away, 67-54

Bowling Green hung with Division I state-ranked Toledo Whitmer Friday, trailing by just two, 43-41, entering the fourth quarter.

However, the Panthers pulled away in the fourth quarter to earn a 67-54 victory on the Bobcats’ floor behind 22 points from Antione West and 18 from Makhi Leach in a Northern Lakes League divisional crossover game.

Ahmir Ruffin led BG with 23 points, Jacob Amspoker scored 12 as the Bobcats fell to 9-11 on the season. Whitmer improves to 18-2.

For the Bobcats, Ja’ceous Shannon and Karter Shank scored five points apiece, Tomas Meek scored four points, Grant Sonner scored three points, and Brayden Freyman added two points.

For Whitmer, TaMarrion Davis (1) and Andre Young III scored eight points apiece, Napoleon Jemison scored four points, Elijah McLeod scored three points, and Charles Johnson and Tylin Patterson added two points each.

It marked the return to BG for Whitmer coach Anthony Stacey, a former Bowling Green State University standout.
