Perrysburg Twp. plans road work

LIME CITY – Perrysburg Township plans to pave roadways in several subdivisions this year.

The township at its Feb. 5 meeting agreed to go out to bid for work totaling an estimated $905,900.

The dozen roads on this year’s to-do list include Georgia Road, Creekside Court, Carolina Drive, Kensington Lane, Simmons Road from Ford to Ohio 795, Simmons Road at Woodmont Drive south of U.S. 20, Amberwood Drive, Atterbury Lane, Oak Meadow Drive, Basswood/Brookside Drive and Holiday Lane.

Last year, the township spent a little more than $700,000 on paving, said Marvin Conner, road/maintenance supervisor.

Trustees also approved a rezoning request for 39 acres located east of the Starbright subdivision, between Ohio 795 and Ayers Road, from R-3 suburban residential (medium density) to R-4A suburban residential (high density).

The applicant, Latty LLC of Pemberville, intends to build residential units.

At a public hearing prior to the vote, Lon Muir, representing Latty LLC, said it was his intent to develop 115-120 single family homes similar to what is in Starbright.

The rezoning will allow for reducing the size of the lots to 60 feet, explained Shane Huntley, with Energy Land & Infrastructure, Maumee.

“The current housing needs are more for a 60-foot lot rather than the 75 (feet) which it is currently zoned as,” Huntley said.

He said there are no plans for access off Route 795.

In answer to a concern for water drainage, Huntley said they already have plans for storm water drainage and ponds to handle excess stormwater.

Trustee Gary Britten said he had looked at all the paperwork and had no issue with the change in zoning.

“It’s relatively consistent with what’s in that area,” said Trustee Bob Mack.

The Wood County Planning Commission previously approved the rezoning request.

Also at the meeting, trustees:

• Learned five entities had submitted requests for qualifications for the design-build of a new township administration building.

Trustees agreed to issue a request for proposal from the three entities that scored the highest in a grading system. The entities were Miller Diversified, Maumee; Rudolph Libbe, Walbridge; and Compton Construction, Columbus.

• Approved a resolution to enter into a memorandum of understanding with Rossford Police Department for a joint criminal apprehension team.

• Approved a first-half payment of $9,750 to Gold Shield Canine Training LTD for officer training. The total amount due will be $19,500. The cost is eligible for a 100% reimbursement from the Drug Enforcement Agency.

• Discussed circulating a list of acceptable items to drop off at the township building.

Recreation Director Bob Warnimont said people are dropping off items, including televisions, wherever they want.

“I don’t know how we can do anything to stop it,” he said.

One idea is to place a sign warning people if they drop unaccepted items, they’ll be called to pick it back up.

“We don’t want to spoil it for the good people using it the right way,” Warnimont said.

Trustees said they would put the list on the township website.

• Approved pay rates and wage increases for non-bargaining employees, including the fire chief, $57.52; police chief, $56.56; and administrator $50. Also on the list were the deputy police chief, $54.91; three lieutenants, $50.74; records, $37.30; maintenance supervisor, $43.11; mechanic, $37.97; buildings, $35.21; zoning, $40.48; and administrative assistant, $34.88.

• Entered into a contract with Tooman Roofing and Painting, Leipsic, to power wash and inspect the roof of the administrative building and apply a fiber coating at a cost of $16,100 and to power wash the sides of the building, prime and paint the walk-in doors for an additional cost of $12,500.
