BG man indicted for drug trafficking

A drug investigation led to the indictment of a Bowling Green man for allegedly trafficking in drugs.

A Wood County grand jury on Feb. 7 indicted Clay M. Downs, 24, for aggravated trafficking of drugs and aggravated possession of drugs, both second-degree felonies; having weapons while under disability, a third-degree felony; and receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony.

A search warrant was executed on Jan. 21 in the 16000 block of Mercer Road due to a drug trafficking investigation. Downs allegedly had in his possession and was preparing to distribute more than five times the bulk amount of methamphetamine. Officers also found a Ruger .380 that had been reported stolen. Downs had been convicted of a felony in 2019 in Wood County.

Downs is currently in jail on a $25,000 bond, 100% required.

Also indicted were:

Brian W. Freimark, 38, Oak Harbor, for violating a protection order, a fifth-degree felony. On Oct. 2, he allegedly violated the terms of a protection order or consent agreement. Freimark had previously been convicted of violating a protection order in 2013 in Ottawa County.

Fredricka A. Washington, 46, Columbus, for possession of marijuana and aggravated possession of drugs, both fifth-degree felonies. On Nov. 6, his vehicle was stopped on Interstate 75 for a registration violation and a probable cause search revealed Ecstasy and 1,484 grams of marijuana.

Corey Ann Rapp, 41, Toledo, for possession of heroin, a fifth-degree felony. On March 4, she allegedly was found in possession of heroin or a compound containing heroin.

Michael Roland Braatz Jr., 65, of Toledo and currently in jail, for theft, a fifth-degree felony. On Jan. 10, he allegedly removed reciprocating saw blades from Lowe’s without paying. A search of his vehicle revealed two drills he admitted stealing the previous day. The stolen merchandise totaled $1,172.

Jesse J. Vardaman, 37, of Toledo and currently in jail, for two counts of violating a protection order, one a third-degree felony and one a fifth-degree felony; and breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony. On Jan. 22, he allegedly entered a garage without permission on White Road in Perrysburg and moved Ryobi power tools to a U-Haul truck parked on River Bend East Court. He told officers he was helping his ex-girlfriend and her sister move some items. The ex-girlfriend’s parents own the garage. The ex-girlfriend was listed as a protected person on a protection order. She told officers Vardaman had contacted her multiple times throughout the day via telephone. Vardaman has previously been convicted to violation of a protection order in 2023 in Lucas County.

Daniel J. Baez, 42, Rossford, for abduction, a third-degree felony; disrupting public services, a fourth-degree felony; and domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor. Rossford police were dispatched to the 1000 block of East Elm Tree Road on Dec. 23 for a 911 hand-up call. Dispatched advised they could hear a woman screaming. As police approached the house, they could hear a woman screaming as she attempted to exit the garage. As officers entered the garage, Baez fled the area. He was discovered hiding in a shed in the backyard and was arrested.

Co-defendants Gregory A. Cotton, 47, Toledo, and Scott Edward Emmons, 43, Bucyrus, for theft and two counts forgery, all fifth-degree felonies. On Oct. 9, they allegedly deprived a couple of more than $1,000 by forgery.

Allan Mathew Jones, 35, Toledo, for possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony. On Dec. 4, he allegedly was found in possession of cocaine or a substance containing cocaine.

Marlon Michael Sierra Sevilla, 26, Perrysburg, for improperly handling of firearms in a motor vehicle, a fifth-degree felony; and using weapons while intoxicated and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse or a combination of the (OVI), both first-degree misdemeanors. On Jan. 1, Bowling Green police was dispatched to a male sleeping at the wheel in a drive thru on East Wooster Street. A loaded 9 mm handgun was found in the center console and a second firearm was found in a duffle bag in the rear seat. A breath test administered at the police station resulted in a 0.041 blood alcohol concentration. It was believed Sevilla was also under the influence of marijuana and a urine sample was taken.

Anthony Raynal Binion, 19, Elyria, for aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; and illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto grounds of a specified government facility, a third-degree felony. On Dec. 1, he allegedly was found in possession of methamphetamine after he conveyed or attempted to convey drugs onto the grounds of a detention facility or government office building.

Robert Dean Hall, 31, Temperance, Michigan, for disseminating matter harmful to juveniles and importuning, both fifth-degree felonies. On Oct. 20, Hall allegedly sent obscene photos to a detective posing as a 14-year-old girl. He used Kik Messenger, and he was identified by pictures he sent of his face.

Co-defendants Kevin Ray Baldwin, 59, Toledo, and Van Antonio Adams, 27, Toledo, for grant theft and misuse of credit cards, both fourth-degree felonies; telecommunications fraud, and tampering with records, all third-degree felonies. From June 5-15, they allegedly stole more than $7,500 from the Wood County Clerk of Courts office after using another’s credit card without consent to make a payment on the court’s electronic payment system. Warrants have been issued for their arrest.

Tyreese Jermain Morris, 34, Bowling Green and currently in jail, for two counts of vandalism, both fifth-degree felonies. On Jan. 10, he allegedly caused damage to property owned by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office.

Jake Hoffman, 23, Fostoria, for failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony; operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug or abuse or a combination of them (OVI), a first-degree misdemeanor; and criminal trespass, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. On Jan. 15, he allegedly fled police after being signaled to stop after being observed on property without permission. He allegedly was under the influence at the time of the incident.

Melvin James, 39, Bowling Green, for trespass in a habitation when a person is present or likely to be present and domestic violence, both fourth-degree felonies. On Dec. 17, James allegedly entered an apartment in the 1000 block of Third Street without permission and dragged the women onto the bed before she was able to break free.

Seth Ernest Thomas, 43, Bowling Green, for domestic violence, a third-degree felony; and strangulation, a fourth-degree felony. On Jan. 6, Thomas caused or attempted to cause physical harm to a family member by grabbing the man by the throat and face. Thomas previously had been convicted of three domestic violence charges, in 2008 and 2020 in Wood County and in 2013 in Sandusky County.

Olivia Harp, 27, Toledo, for failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony; and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug or abuse or a combination of them (OVI), a first-degree misdemeanor. On Jan. 19, she allegedly drove 113 mph on Interstate 75 in Perrysburg Township and fled police after being given a signal to stop. The pursuit continued south to Ohio 582, east to Luckey Road, south to Sugar Ridge Road the west to Ohio 199. She was found to be impaired and refused all chemical testing. A warrant has been issued for her arrest.

Jared Nicholas Evans, 27, Calumet City, Illinois, for counterfeiting, a fourth-degree felony. On Jan. 5, he allegedly used $160 in fraudulent $20 bills to complete a purchase at Kohl’s in Perrysburg.

Frederick Douglas Cleveland, 43, Detroit, for possession of marijuana, a fifth-degree felony. On April 6, he allegedly was found with more than 200 grams of marijuana. If found guilty, he may have to forfeit $1,011 in drug proceeds.

Co-defendants Calipe Lee Brown, 35, and Shourniqua Janasha Whaley, 32, both of Lima, for trafficking in cocaine and possession of cocaine, both first-degree felonies; and trafficking in a fentanyl-related compound and possession of a fentanyl-related compound, both third-degree felonies. On July 22, they allegedly had in their possession and were preparing for distribution at least 27 grams of cocaine and five grams of a fentanyl-related compound.

Joyce Marie Richardson, 59, Toledo, for possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony; and theft, a first-degree misdemeanor. On July 19, law enforcement was patrolling on U.S. 20 when the officer observed a woman exit Gabe’s pushing a cart full of items not in bags. The vehicle was stopped on Carronade Drive and a search of the woman, identified as Richardson, revealed a white straw that testing showed contained cocaine.

Vanessa Lynn Von Bauer, 37, Toledo, for possession of a fentanyl-related compound and possession of cocaine, both fifth-degree felonies. On Oct. 20, she allegedly was found in possession of Xylazine and cocaine.

Co-defendants Roberto Selvera, 34, and Megan Ruth Konoff, 34, both of Clay Center, for theft, a fifth-degree felony. On Dec. 19, they allegedly removed $1,517.66 in clothing from Kohl’s in Perrysburg without paying.

Serena Nicole Keiser, 31, Temperance, Michigan, for theft, a fifth-degree felony. On Aug. 14, Sept. 4 and Sept. 24 she allegedly removed items from Sephora in Perrysburg without paying. The items she took totaled $2,087.

Ronnie L. Burks, 59, Cygnet, for burglary, a third-degree felony. On Dec. 4, police responded to a burglary in process at a Liberty Hi Road home in Rudolph. The caller reported Burks was inside the home attempting to carry her fiancé’s tools out with him. The caller obtained a license plate number and officers apprehended Burks a few miles away.

Mama Diallo, 37, Williamsburg, for possession of marijuana, a fifth-degree felony. On Aug. 27, she allegedly was found in possession of 200 or more grams of marijuana.

Dajarra Lashay McCalebb, 30, Toledo, for aggravated possession of drugs, a second-degree felony. On Nov. 26, she allegedly was found in possession of more than five times the bulk amount of methamphetamine.

Frank J. Egger, 43, Paducah, Kentucky, for possession of marijuana and trafficking in marijuana, both third-degree felonies. On Jan. 11, he allegedly was found in possession of and was preparing for distribution more than 1,000 grams of marijuana.
