The Rotary Club of Bowling Green has announced the approval of a $7,200 grant from club members and Rotary District 6600 to support The Kasiisi Project’s initiative in Kabarole District, Western Uganda.

This grant will significantly aid the project’s efforts to provide clean water and girl-friendly latrines for rural Ugandan schools and their communities.

Founded in 1997, The Kasiisi Project, a 501(c)(3) organization in the US, works tirelessly to preserve the biodiversity of Kibale National Park, a region renowned for its rich wildlife and ecological significance. The project emphasizes a holistic approach encompassing education, conservation, and health, primarily engaging with 16 forest-edge primary schools.

The Kasiisi Project’s current proposal involves the installation of a borehole for clean drinking water and the construction of a girl-friendly latrine in local schools. This initiative addresses critical needs in the community, where many schools rely on unreliable rainwater catchment systems and face challenges in providing adequate sanitary facilities for girls.

A strong emphasis is placed on community involvement, with schools signing maintenance agreements and local communities contributing to the upkeep.

The project’s progress and effectiveness will be verified through on-site observations and regular impact assessments by Rotarian representatives.
