LIMA — Bittersweet at Betty’s Farm has announced a significant milestone in their mission to positively impact the lives of individuals with autism. A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new barn is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Bittersweet at Betty’s Farm, 4640 Fort Amanda Road.

Founded on the belief that connecting individuals with autism to nature and agricultural experiences can lead to transformative outcomes, Bittersweet Farms has pioneered the farmstead model since 1983. Bittersweet’s original location in Whitehouse was the first farmstead program for the adults with autism in the United States, expanding to Betty’s Farm in Lima in 2006.

The construction of Betty’s Barn represents a significant step forward for Bittersweet at Betty’s Farm, as it will serve as a cornerstone for agricultural programming for participants and the wider community. The barn will provide space for educational activities, vocational training, and community events, fostering a supportive ecosystem for growth and development.

“At Bittersweet at Betty’s Farm, our mission is to create opportunities that positively impact the lives of individuals with autism,” said Julie Champa, development director at Bittersweet Farms. “Betty’s Barn has been made possible by the generous support of many donors and we are so grateful for their partnership to support our mission.”
