A 17-year-old Weston resident was arrested for obstructing justice after he was caught lying to police.

At 11:20 p.m. Saturday, a Bowling Green police officer was walking through City Lot 4 and observed a group of people standing around a vehicle that had its doors open.

As the officer approached, the group began dispersing, leaving one male in the front seat.

The members of the group denied ownership of the vehicle, which was found to have two open bottles of alcohol in the back seat and an open can of Smirnoff Ice on the front floorboard of the passenger seat where the male was sitting, according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.

The male also had an unopened can of Smirnoff Ice in his right pocket.

When asked for ID, he told the officer he didn’t have his wallet on him and he was 21. After being told police would run his name and verify his age, he said he was 17. When told to call his parents, he said he didn’t have his cell phone and he did not know their phone number, according to the report.

The owner of the vehicle was contacted, and granted permission to search the vehicle.

As the male was unable to contact his parents, he was taken into custody. A search of his person uncovered his wallet and driver’s license which confirmed his name and age of 17.

He was transported to the juvenile detention center and charged with open container in a stationary vehicle, underage possession of alcohol and obstructing official business.

The owner of the vehicle, Kylee Paul, 21, Sylvania, was cited for open container in a stationary motor vehicle.
