Get pet photos with Santa

Pet owners – with their lizard, goldfish, cockatoo as well as dogs and cats — can get a picture with Santa, hosted by Citizens for BG Dog Parks.

From 1-5 p.m. on Dec. 9, Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit Main Street Ace Hardware in Bowling Green to pose with pets in front of a festive backdrop. For a $10 suggested donation, Tim Brand Photography will provide both a 4×6 photo and a digital download.

Dec. 9 is also the last day to purchase a $5 raffle ticket for the committee’s cat and dog themed gift baskets, each valued at more than $150. The baskets are currently on display at Grounds for Thought. Tickets may be purchased by visiting BGDOGPARKS.ORG.

Pet Photos with Santa and the gift basket raffle are fundraisers to support the efforts of the Citizens for BG Dog Parks Committee to establish dog parks within easy walking distance of the city’s residential areas. The committee is currently in discussion with the city administration to lease space for the first dog park.

According to a poll conducted in 2018 by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), “9 in 10 (91%) Americans believe dog parks provide benefits to the communities they serve.” An article in the November 2018 issue of Parks and Recreation Magazine notes that “Dog parks are sought after by pet owners for multiple reasons. They provide socialization for both pets and their owners. They bring people of all walks of life together in a space where they can form bonds and friendships based on their shared love of dogs.”

The Citizens for BG Dog Parks Committee is seeking additional members.
