LIME CITY – Along with a new chief, Perrysburg Township Police Department has a new deputy chief.

Chief Matt Gazarek and Deputy Chief David Nixon, who were both appointed earlier this year, were sworn in at the Nov. 15 trustees meeting.

Gazarek thanked his family and coworkers who attended the ceremony.

He started with the department in 2002 as a patrolman and was named acting chief in August when Mark Hetrick, who had served as chief of police since 2011, retired. He was promoted to chief in October.

Nixon replaces Gazarek as deputy chief.

Nixon has been with the township since August 2007. In 2015, he was promoted from road patrol officer to lieutenant.

The Whitehouse native started as a police officer in Swanton. He then worked with the police department in Holland for 10 years.

He said he appreciates the township’s bigger department and the opportunities offered.

Also at the meeting, trustees:

• Approved a change order to add a 12-foot partial front cover for the salt shed which is under construction. The cost was $5,500.

• Passed a resolution to enter into an agreement with Wood County for use, free of charge, computer aided dispatch, mobile and law enforcement records software. The agreement will be terminated after its initial three-year term.

• Entered into an agreement with iWorQ to allow online submittal of forms and permits for the planning and zoning department. The software will also track inspections and plan reviews and allow the submitting of code enforcement issues online. The annual fee is $4,500 plus an annual fee of $900 for online credit/debit card processing.

• Heard from zoning Administrator Kelly Moore that the zoning commission had approved a site plan for a Wendy’s at the former Big Boy at 10705 Fremont Pike. She said the plans include the elimination of both access points on Fremont Pike. Access will be from Lakevue Drive.

Moore also reported the zoning commission approved the map amendment at Lime City Road and Ohio 795 of approximately 40 acres from agriculture A1 to residential R5.

• Gave Moore a pay increase of 5.3%, effective with the next payroll, taking her salary to $80,938.50.

• Approved payment of $11,045 to the Wood County Engineer’s Office for storm water management services.
