BGCS accepts $15,290 in donations

Donations valued at nearly $15,500 were accepted at the October Bowling Green City Schools Board of Education meeting.

Among the donations accepted were for fifth grade camp.

For Crim Elementary campers, Rick Busselle donated $75 in shoes and boots and Sarah Corney donated $70 in boots and socks.

For Conneaut Elementary campers, Kelsey Liska donated $80, Marcie Wahba donated $180 and Arianne Newman donated $200.

The BG Schools Foundation donated $7,500 for District-wide family assistance for camp.

Snacks donations for Kenwood Elementary valued at $80 for Kenwood Elementary students from Norm Geer, $80; Melissa DeSmith, $100; an anonymous donor, $50; and Eileen Underwood and Richard Rowlands, $50.

DECA received donations of $200 from Stephen and Terri Bateson, $200 from H & R Block Bowling Green, and $1,000 from Moriarty Machinery & Supply.

The high school choir got donations of $300 from Benjamin and Kristin Otley, $250 from Michael and Rachel Barnett, $150.00 from Renee Brott, $200 from Col. George and Mrs. Susan Winters, $50 from Ben Motisher Jr. and Cynthia Ducar, and $ 250 from John Titus and Tabatha Arton-Titus.

The high school football team received donations of $25 from Mike and Jill Kijinski, $100 from Ellen and William Jay, $100 from D. Kurt and Janet Brown, and $100 from Richard Rihm.

Additional donations included:

• School supplies valued at $1,500 for Kenwood Elementary from Trinity United Methodist Church

• School supplies boxes valued at $80 for the district for Staples

• $100 for Jr. Bobcat Basics from the Fite/Waldron family

• $550 for the BGHS Faculty Book Scholarship Fund from BGHS Athletic Booster Club

• $1,500 for preschool educational toys from BG Noon Kiwanis

• $250 for the BGHS Key Club – Mascot Uniforms from BG Noon Kiwanis

Donations totaled $15,290.

In other business, the board:

• Accepted the retirement of Crim Elementary art teacher Noreen Overholt, effective June 1, 2024.

• Approval of a student trip request for DECA senior students to attend the “Ultimate DECA Power Trip” Conference on Nov. 16-19 in Austin, Texas. All costs to be paid by student.

• Approval of a student trip request for Model UN students to attend a four day conference at the Model United Nations conference in Chicago, Illinois, Feb. 8-11, 2024. Costs paid via student fund raisers, student payments and club funds.

• Approved supplemental contracts for a series of coaches including: Kayleigh Evans, assistant girls basketball coach at the high school, $3,600; Kenneth Hale, head high school wrestling coach, $6,560; Joanna Kosakowski, assistant high school swimming coach, $1,500; Carolyn Layne, assistant high school swimming coach, $3,072; Joseph Nauman, assistant high school wrestling coach, $4,572; and Mason Roth, head boys basketball coach at the high school, $7,150.

• Approved student activity employment contracts for a series of coaches, including: John Bateson, 9th grade girls basketball coach, $4,200; Joseph Beagle, 7th grade girls basketball coach, $3,479; Armando Calderon, co-head coach for boys and girls bowling at the high school, $1,289 each; Joseph Costic Moore, assistant high school hockey coach, $2,500; Daniel Deiter, 9th grade wrestling coach, $4,174; Madison Dill, assistant high school girls basketball coach, $1,500; Tanner Fausnaugh, assistant high school hockey coach, $2,000; Michael Furnas, assistant high school boys basketball coach, $2,321; Victoria Golden, winter middle school cheerleading coach, $1,739; Jarvis Hines, 9th grade boys basketball coach, $2,400; David Hoehner, 7th grade boys basketball coach, $3,479; Kristine King, 8th grade girls basketball coach, $3,479; Gary Layne, head high school swimming coach, $6,560; Adam Newcomer, assistant high school boys basketball coach, $2,321; Jadon Nichols, assistant high school boys basketball coach, $3,300; Connor Rogowski, head high school hockey coach, $6,560; Cody Schmidt, 8th grade boys basketball coach, $3,479; Stuart Smith, Assistant high school hockey coach, $2,105; Jacob Vanneman, head high school girls basketball coach, $7,192; Gary Wachter, co-head coach for boys and girls high school bowling, $400 each; Jamie Webb, assistant high school hockey coach, $2,000.
