Perrysburg Schools plan is ill-conceived

To the editor,

Do you have enough accurate information to vote for a $140M Perrysburg school bond levy?

The levy only covers building needs for twenty years but is payable over 36. The district will need to renew the 5 year incremental operational levy that expires in 2024. The district should know the additional operational costs needed due to expansion. Where is this information?

Do you think that the community should have answered one key question prior to planning for the next 20-36 years: Should we be a one or two high school community? That decision determines what type of buildings are needed and where they need to be located. Why not survey the entire district or have open meetings to receive input from the entire community instead of just 50+ people? Many worked for the district!

Not one cost-cutting recommendation from the state audit was implemented? One Perrysburg school board member said it was because “we are not other districts, we are Perrysburg!” The administration said the audit was “no longer applicable” since the last levy passed. Why be fiscally responsible when the district can go back to the well for more money?

Mr. Hosler erroneously claims that “Perrysburg Schools’ Expenditure/pupil in FY ‘22 was $1,749.82 BELOW the state average.” The state confirmed that the actual difference is $200/pupil less since Perrysburg has a far lower percentage of disadvantaged students. Mr. Hosler knows this is inaccurate yet he continues to use information that does not compare apples to apples.

I am speaking for myself, not family or any organization. We moved here because we value education but this is an ill-conceived, cut and paste plan. Whatever your position, please vote!
