Ernest “Ernie” Moore, 85, passed away on October 11, 2023. He was born on December 25, 1937 in Bowling Green to the late Alva and Mildred Moore.
On June 21, 1958 he married Judith Sherman. They shared 56 loving years of marriage together before her passing in 2014.
After graduating Westwood High School he served as Military Police in the US Army from 1961 to 1963. Post his military service, Ernie transitioned to a civilian career as a grain elevator manager at Mid-Wood for an astounding 44 years.
Ernie was an avid sports enthusiast who loved cheering on the Cleveland Indians/Guardians, the Browns, BGSU Women’s basketball, and the OSU Buckeyes. He had a great love of horses and partnered with his son in breeding Arabian horses for a time. His favorite summer hobby was mowing and caring for his yard, bird watching, all of nature and animals and retiring by a campfire with his dogs and family. His sense of humor and compassion for all living things was a large part of his character. And will be greatly missed.
He was a member of Village View Church of Christ and also served as an Elder.
Above all else, he cherished his family, especially his grand-children. Their happiness and well-being were his top priorities in life.
Ernie is survived by his daughter, Susan Marshall; sons Richard (Tim) Moore and Michael (Lisa) Moore; sisters Betty Lause and Carole (Ray) Clark; a brother Rodney (Sherri) Moore; granddaughters Taylor, Paityn, and Danielle; 8 great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife and his son Daniel.
Visitation for Ernie will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023 from 4 – 7 pm at Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home, 1460 W. Wooster Street, Bowling Green, Ohio. An additional hour of visitation will be on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 11:30 am until his celebration of life service at 12:30 pm. Burial will follow at Wood County Memory Gardens.
