Sheriff investigates fatal crash

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Monday.

At approximately 12:46 p.m., deputies responded to a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 23 just south of Ohio 582 in Troy Township.

A 2014 Chevy Cruze, driven by 76-vear old-William Grimm of Woodville, was stopped southbound on Route 23 waiting to make a left turn.

A 2010 Hyundai, driven by 31-year-old Chelsea Fairchild of Mansfield, struck Grimm from behind, pushing him into the northbound lane where he was struck head on by 2016 Chevy Cruze driven by 21-year-old Andrew Holcomb of Gibsonburg.

Fairfield and Holcomb were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.

Grimm was transported by air ambulance to Toledo Hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival.

Assisting on scene were Troy Township EMS. Pemberville/Freedom EMS, Sandusky County EMS and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
