Kiwanis Club hosts expert in human trafficking research

The Bowling Green Kiwanis Club will meet Thursday at the Slater Family Ice Arena Lounge, located on the campus of Bowling Green State University. The public is invited.

The meeting will commence at noon and lunch will be available starting at 11:30 for a nominal fee of $15.

This week’s guest speaker is Lara Wilken, assistant clinical professor in the BGSU College of Health & Human Services. Wilken is an expert in the field of human trafficking research and will share insights into the latest advancements in this critical area. Attendees can expect to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current state of research on human trafficking, shedding light on this pressing issue affecting communities worldwide.

St. Louis School hosts baked steak/chicken dinner

CUSTAR — St. Louis School, located on Ohio 281, will be hosting a baked steak/chicken dinner on Saturday, serving from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Eat in or carry out and a free will offering is requested.

Proceeds benefit the school’s tuition assistance fund.

First Christian Church hosts free community dinner

The monthly drive-thru community meal and food distribution hosted by First Christian Church of Bowling Green is Friday from 5-6 p.m. Those who are experiencing food insecurity are encouraged to participate in this free meal. The menu will be pulled pork sandwich, a vegetable, fruit cup, and cookies. Participants are also encouraged to pick up groceries and shop for select toiletries, breads and pastries.

The church is located at 875 Haskins Road.

To participate in this monthly event, arrive between 5 and 6 p.m. at the FCC parking lot and remain in your car. Volunteers will take your order, hand deliver the meal(s), and direct you to the groceries and toiletries. COVID and flu precautions are requested to be followed.

BGSU holding viewing, activities for partial solar eclipse

Next year much of northwestern Ohio will be in the direct path of a once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse. Ahead of the momentous event, the region will experience a partial solar eclipse on Saturday and Bowling Green State University is holding free community activities, including a viewing session.

The celebration of the partial solar eclipse will begin at 11 a.m. with a presentation in the BGSU Planetarium by Kate Dellenbusch, teaching professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

At noon, BGSU is set to hold a public viewing session for the partial eclipse outside the planetarium featuring telescopes and free filter glasses for safe observation of the event. A livestream of the eclipse from multiple locations, including a track of the eclipse path, will be available inside the BGSU Planetarium until 2:30 p.m. Outdoor activities are weather permitting.

Bowling Green sets Trick or Treat

“Trick or Treat” night will be held Oct. 31 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Bowling Green.

Citizens handing out treats should indicate participation by turning on porch lights.

Those driving during the evening are asked to drive slowly and with caution, being mindful of the large number of pedestrians that evening.
