Perrysburg Twp., City of Perrysburg sign EMS mutual aid agreement

LIME CITY – Perrysburg Township has inked a deal for automatic EMS mutual aid with the City of Perrysburg.

The township and city have had an agreement for mutual aid for fire calls for years, said Perrysburg Township Fire/EMS Chief Tom Brice.

Township trustees approved the agreement at their Sept. 20 meeting.

Brice gave an example of an EMS call to West River Road.

“It’s quite a long haul for us to get out there,” he said.

The agreement will apply when one agency is closer that the other when an EMS call is received.

The Kroger on Ohio 20 is in the city but is closer to the township; West River Road is in the township but response time from the city will be quicker, Brice explained.

The agreement allows fire chiefs in the two entities to send first responders when necessary.

“We’re trying to make an impact on those critical life-saving procedures,” Brice said.

“I think this is a good thing for both parties,” he said.

Trustee Gary Brittin asked about how services will be charged.

It shouldn’t be an issue, Brice said, and added there have been discussions on getting the rates in line but the departments are at that point yet.

“This is something you’ve talked about for two or three years,” Brittin said.

“I think this is a great thing for both of our communities and our citizens as well,” Brice said.

In other business, trustees:

• Heard Marvin Conner, road superintendent, express concerns for the parking lots around the township building.

“I’m just worried about someone tripping,” he said.

Trustee Bob Mack suggested discussion on replacing the asphalt wait a couple months until the township decides what it is going to do with the township building.

• Approved the replacement of the furnace and air conditioning unit in the fire department’s kitchen. Downey Plumbing|Heating|Cooling, Bowling Green, will be paid $11,634 for the units and installation.

• Approved the purchase of a dump truck for the service department from ABCO Truck Equipment, Toledo, for an amount not to exceed $20,000.

• Learned there were 190 EMS and 31 fire calls in August.

It was the busiest August on record, Brice said.

• Were presented with the AED now located in the Perrysburg Township meeting room. Brice reported there are two in maintenance, one in police station, one at the Perrysburg Heights Community Center, and one in the township’s administrative office.

• Approved the purchase of office chairs for the police department from Office Max, Perrysburg, for $2,036; and truck bed cover from RealTruck for $699.

• Learned the Christmas tree lighting will be held on Dec. 6. Trustees also gave approval to replace the lights on the tree for $400.
