Melvyn P. Leffler, Edward Stettinius Professor of History Emeritus at the University of Virginia, will present the annual Gary R. Hess Lecture in Policy History at Bowling Green State University, hosted by the Department of History.

The lecture will be held on Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Theater (BTSU 206). The lecture is free and open to the public.

Leffler will deliver remarks regarding his recent book with Oxford University Press, Confronting Saddam Hussein: George W. Bush and the Invasion of Iraq. This book draws on a unique set of personal interviews with top U.S. officials from the period, along with recently declassified documents, to analyze what factors contributed to war.

The Gary R. Hess Lecture in Policy History is an annual distinguished lecture initiated by Hess’s former students to honor his 45 years of teaching, scholarship and service to BGSU.
