Bearcats nip Falcons, 1-0

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The University of Cincinnati scored early, and the Bearcats made that goal hold up in a 1-0 win over the Bowling Green State University women’s soccer team Thursday evening at Gettler Stadium.

Megan Smith scored the lone goal of the night, just 100 seconds into the match, for the Bearcats (1-2).

Lili Berg and Madison Vukas each played 45 minutes in goal for the Falcons (0-2), with each ‘keeper making one save. The Falcons held advantages of 13-7 in total shot attempts, 7-3 in shots on goal and 4-3 in corner kicks on the night.

Anna Rexford made seven saves in net to earn the shutout for the ‘Cats. Rylee Clark made her first start as a Falcon in Thursday night’s match and freshman Lexi White came off the bench to make her collegiate debut at UC.

A total of seven BGSU freshmen saw action in the contest. The other six – Lizzie Bultynck, Emme Butera, Christine Erdman, Sammie King, Audrey Oliver and Emma Stransky – all had played on Sunday, Aug. 20 at Michigan State as well.

Despite the loss on Thursday, BGSU has an overall record of 67-33-16 since the start of the 2017 season. And, since the beginning of the 2018 campaign, the Falcons are 54-26-15.

BGSU opens the home portion of the schedule on Sunday, taking on Loyola Chicago. That match begins at 1 p.m., and admission is free.
