MILLBURY — It’s a little challenging to get around Lake Township.
At last week’s meeting, the trustees reported that the bridge on East Broadway Road over Cedar Creek is being replaced starting Monday, with a full closure lasting 60 days.
Also, the Lemoyne Road bridge is closed for 90 days for a replacement.
“With Lemoyne, if you’re familiar with that area, that could be dead-ended really quick by the Norfolk Southern line,” said Police Chief Mark Hummer, who is also the township administrator.
“There is an emergency roadway in there — for emergencies,” Hummer said. “But it’s not a roadway to drive on, and we will be monitoring that.”
Also at the Aug. 15 meeting, the trustees:
• Entered into a contract with the state for use of the MARCS radio system for $4,200 annually.
• Approved $3,502 to Lexipol LLC, Frisco, Texas, for policies, procedures and online training for the fire department.
• Authorized spending $1,600 to Auto Trim of NW Ohio Inc., Adrian, Michigan, for graphics on the new ambulance, which will be delivered this month.
• Promoted part-time officer Brent Kieffer to a full-time position. Kieffer, who has worked in Littleton, Colorado, and Toledo, was being recruited by another agency, Hummer said. “This will bolster our numbers a little bit,” Hummer added. He will be paid $30.30 per hour and this is effective Sept. 11.
• Heard that this summer’s Music in the Park had an average of 110 in attendance and only one weather cancellation.
• Heard that a blood drive will be held Aug. 30 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the administration building
• Heard July department reports. Zoning issued 15 permits and collected $7,113. Police made issued 10 citations. Fire and EMS had 152 calls, which is the busiest month of the year. The cemetery had eight burials and 11 cremations.
