The Bowling Green State University volleyball team has disclosed that senior outside hitter and two-time MAC Player of the Year, Petra Indrova, will miss the 2023 volleyball season due to a lower extremity injury sustained during a practice.

Indrova returned to BGSU for a fifth season this year, using her additional season of eligibility due to COVID-19.

“We all are heartbroken for Petra, who has done and means so much for our program,” said head volleyball coach Danijela Tomic. “She is respected and beloved by so many in the Falcon community. Even though her role on the team has changed due to the unfortunate season-ending injury, it will still be impactful and vital to us. Petra will continue to write her legacy as she continues to be a leader and inspiration to all.

“Our team is ready and prepared to face this adversity, through which we will grow and become an even more resilient and grittier team. Our focus and foremost priority is to provide Petra with the best possible care and support as she begins her recovery journey. We are confident that with the help of our medical team, Petra’s determination and resilience, we will see her recover fully and thrive in the next chapters of her life.”

Over four seasons with the Falcons, Indrova (Jihlava, Czech Republic) has recorded 1,348 kills for the Falcons, ranking eighth in program history, on 3,619 career attack attempts, which is fifth in program history. During the 2022 campaign she recorded a team-high 12 double-doubles while leading the team in kills (332) and finishing second on the team with a career-high 332 digs as well. She added a team-high 37 aces and registered 2.91 kills per set. Her performance during last season earned Indrova her second consecutive MAC Player of the Year award, as well as being named an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American for a second time.

The Falcons begin the 2023 season on Saturda with an exhibition against Gannon at 1 p.m. The regular season will start on Aug. 25, with three matches at the NKU Tournament, taking on ETSU, Ohio State and Northern Kentucky.

The Falcons will then return home to the Stroh Center for the Hampton Inn Invitational, including the home opener against 2022 NCAA Tournament participant Loyola Chicago (Aug. 31) as well as matches against Texas A&M (Sept. 1) and another 2022 NCAA Tournament participant in Wright State (Sept. 2).
