To the Editor:
The argument is being made that the Ohio Constitution should be made difficult for voters to change by initiative petition. A yes vote on Issue 1 will make it impossible for citizens to influence or change the Ohio Constitution if it passes.
Demonstrative of that is the proposed requirement within Issue 1 to require citizens who want to place an amendment on the ballot to collect signatures from at least 5% of voters from the last gubernatorial election in all 88 counties, instead of the current 44.
So the failure to gather enough signatures in one county, less than 1.2% of the states voters, makes it impossible, no matter how many signatures are gathered in the other 87 counties, to have any citizen initiative petition in the future.
A yes vote on Issue 1 is the end of majority rule in Ohio. A minority will then rule our state.
It is critical that Ohio voters vote no on Issue 1 on Tuesday.
