Plenty of reasons to vote no on Issue 1

To the Editor:

Vote no on Issue 1, unless you want to move toward more autocracy, taking away a democratic check on the power of the state legislature.

You want to give unchecked power to a state legislature gerrymandered, with 68% Republicans in the House and 78% in the Senate, when Republicans are 53% of the electorate (J.D. Vance’s majority for Senate in 2022).

You want public initiatives shut down by a 40.1% minority.

You want to increase the power of a legislative majority that was recently involved in a $60 million bribery scheme (two former leaders sentenced to 20 and five years).

You want to reward a legislative majority that invested $250 million of Ohio tax money to hold this special election.
