Donations for dogs: Sheriff’s office holds drive

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is hosing its second annual Pet Supply and Food Drive.

Donations can be dropped off at the sheriffs office main lobby, 1960 E. Gypsy Lane Road, until Aug. 31.

Items needed include dry food, canned food, treats, enrichment toys, leashes, collars, cat litter, puppy pads, blankets, paper towels, toilet paper, isopropyl alcohol, laundry detergent, Dawn dish soap, bleach, distilled water, trash bags and storage bags.

The donations will go to the Wood County Dog Shelter, Wood County Humane Society and Dogworks Ohio.

Habitat for Humanity will bless 2 homes in Wayne

WAYNE — Habitat for Humanity of Wood County will hold a home dedication ceremony and community celebration for two homes that were built for the Barnett and Reichenbach families in Wayne on Thursday from 4:30-6 p.m.

Wayne Mayor Craig Everett will speak. There will be home tours and a cookout.

Build partners were Ridge Stone Builders and Lakeside Interiors who completed the construction of one of the two homes. Habitat and its corporate partners provided the financing and volunteer support for the other home. This dedication ceremony not only celebrates two families who have completed their journey to homeownership but also marks completion of Habitat for Humanity of Wood County’s 51st and 52nd home.

Baked steak served in Bradner

BRADNER — The Bradner American Legion’s baked steak dinner will be served Sunday at the post, 209 W. Crocker St. Call in orders to 419-288-3634 for early pick-up, or stop by and eat at the post.

The menu includes green beans, mashed potatoes with or without gravy, dessert and a drink. Cost is $10. Serving starts at 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. or they run out.

Cocoon has Perrysburg Family Fun Day

PERRYSBURG – The Cocoon, Wood County’s only comprehensive domestic and sexual violence agency, will be hosting Perrysburg Family Fun Day at Woodlands Park shelter house, 429 E. Boundary St.

Scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 12 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., this family-friendly event is free and open to the public. Presented by the Taylor Automotive Family with entertainment provided courtesy of Perrysburg Moving and Hauling, Perrysburg Family Fun Day will feature performances and activities by GLOvation Circus and live music by DC Taylor.

Now Serving will be providing food and the Bard’s Coffee will have refreshments available, both of which can be purchased for a donation to benefit the Cocoon. Representatives from the Cocoon will be on hand to answer any questions and pass out information about programs and services.

Tegge talks to BG Exchange Club

The Exchange Club of Bowling Green will be hosting guest speaker Tim Tegge on Tuesday at noon at the Bowling Green Country Club, 923 Fairview Ave.

Tegge is the executive director for the Sight Center of Northwest Ohio, a local nonprofit that empowers independence and enriches the lives of people who are blind or visually impaired.

His experience with the Sight Center has been extensive, first as a low-vision client, then a two-term board member, and since 2015 a member of the staff. In November he was named executive director, becoming only the second leader in the organization’s 100 years to have low vision.

BG Community Center closes for annual maintenance

The Bowling Green Community Center will be closed to facility users next week for its annual shutdown for maintenance.

Pass holders are able to use the Bowling Green State University Student Recreation Center as part of a reciprocal agreement. The community center will reopen for use on Aug. 12.

Anyone who needs to conduct business with the Parks & Recreation Department, the Simpson Building Administrative Offices, 1291 Conneaut Ave., will remain open on a limited basis from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. during the shutdown period to accept and process program registrations, rental reservations and payments, and other related business transactions.

More information about the reciprocal usage will be emailed to current pass holders. Hard copies of BGSU parking passes for community center pass holders to use will also be available for pickup at the community center front desk.
