Thomas James Frater, 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on January 7, 1948, in Kenton, Ohio to the late Earl Jr. and Irene M. (Williams) Frater. Tom was a graduate of Hardin Northern High School, Dola, Ohio, class of 1967. After graduation, Tom served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy in the Mediterranean.

Tom married Alita A. Borger on August 1, 1971, and she survives in Bowling Green, Ohio. Also surviving are his two daughters, Sarah E. (James) Davis, of Bowling Green, Ohio and Deborah A. (Derek) Cohen, of Austin, Texas and two grandsons Aleister Irwin and Leighton Thomas Cohen, of Austin, Texas.

Surviving brothers include Dwight Frater, of Dunkirk, Ohio and Keith Frater, of Wharton, Ohio and sisters-in-law Barbara Frater, of Dunkirk, Ohio and Ruth Frater of Toledo, Ohio and a special cousin born on his birth date, in the same hospital, Pam (Jerry) Layman and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Tom’s death include brothers Robert Frater and Raymond Frater; sisters-in-law, Sandra Schwartz, Lisa Frater, Diana Frater, and Faye Frater; and brother-in-law, William Schwartz.

Tom retired from Phoenix Technologies and was a substitute bus driver for the Bowling Green City Schools. He was a great listener to neighbors that stopped by the front porch for a chat and loved working in his garage woodworking shop making furniture for his family and friends.

For almost fifty years, he was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Bowling Green, by being a children’s Sunday School teacher and serving on several committees.

Memorial contributions may be given to First United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1526 E. Wooster St. Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Greg Miller and Wendy Guion will officiate.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 W Wooster St.
