Storms expected to start in Wood County

0

The first round of storms is expected to start between 3 and 6 p.m. in Wood County, according to an afternoon update by the Wood County Emergency Management Agency.

The National Weather Service has stated that the confidence in the severity of the second round of storms is “medium” due to the fact that the first round could stabilize the atmosphere to the area’s benefit.

There may be bouts of heavy, “efficient” rainfall where it is short lived but in significant amounts (estimated up to 1.5 inches in total in some parts of the county).

What to expect:

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for parts of northwestern, north central, and northeastern Ohio through 7 p.m. this evening.

Thunderstorms moving out of Indiana will cross northern Ohio over the next several hours, posing a risk for scattered damaging winds up to 60 MPH.

Another round of storms may push in from the northwest later this evening, with damaging winds the main risk. A tornado or two, isolated large hail, and isolated flash flooding are also possible with the later round of storms.

What has changed:

Storms developed earlier than expected to our west this morning, with an initial round of storms pushing through over the next several hours.

Confidence in severe thunderstorms later this evening into the overnight is now lower due to initial storms arriving earlier than expected.

We will continue to monitor for developments. Please follow us and NWS Cleveland on social media (Facebook and Twitter) where we will also share any pertinent updates.
