GRAND RAPIDS — The next program of the Rhythm on the River Arts Series will be presented by Russ Franzen on Sunday at 4 p.m.

The programs are held in the Wright Pavilion located on the towpath between the canal and the Maumee River at the end of Lincoln Street. The programs are sponsored by the Grand Rapids Historical Society and are free to the public.

Russ is an award-winning writer and amateur historian. His program is called Great Lakes History in Song. He believes that sometimes the stories that make up our history are better expressed through music, and he sings songs that tell the stories of people, lighthouses, places and ships that make up the history of the Great Lakes. This year, Russ will include many of his original songs about the Miami and Erie Canal because of his work on the canal boat at Providence Metropark.

Bring lawn chairs or blankets and join in this beautiful setting alongside the Maumee River. In case of rain, the program will be moved to the old fire station, farther west on Front Street.
