A Walbridge man who has been convicted of multiple OVIs is in jail.

Steven M. Scanlan, 31, appeared for sentencing July 10 in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Molly Mack.

He had been indicted in May 2022 for two counts of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse or a combination of them/OVI, both fourth-degree felonies.

On Feb. 27, 2022, near the intersection of Oregon Road and Ohio 795, he was spotted driving recklessly. The vehicle sped up and slowed down several times after the Perrysburg Township police officer activated lights and siren.

According to court documents, Scanlan drove for at least one-quarter mile before stopping.

The officer approached the vehicle and observed several clues to impairment, including the odor of alcohol, confusion, and slow, lethargic movements, according to court documents.

Field sobriety tests were terminated when Scanlan lost his balance and nearly fell while performing the one leg stand test.

He attempted to submit to a breath test but was unable to successfully do so.

A urine test resulted in a 0.17 blood alcohol content, according to court documents.

Scanlan has been convicted of three OVI offenses in the last 10 years, twice in Wood County and once in Lucas County.

He pleaded guilty to both charges as indicted and was sentenced to 60 days in jail.

Mack gave him the option to serve the time in the SEARCH program.

He also must pay a mandatory fine of $1,350 to the Wood County Clerk of Courts as well as the costs of this prosecution.
