HERMOSILLO, Sonora, Mexico – Bowling Green State University rising sophomore middle blocker Jessica Andrews will be representing Canada as a member of the U23 Canadian National Team that will be competing at the Pan American Cup in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico this week.

Canada’s first match will take place on Tuesday against the Dominican Republic before facing Cuba on Wednesday and Puerto Rico on Thursday.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to compete in my first international event with the Canadian U23 group,” Andrews said. “I know the experience will hold valuable lessons, helping me grow as both an athlete and person. BGVB has become an important part of my pathway; I am excited to bring my learnings back to an environment so meaningful to me.”

“We are so proud of Jessica for making the U23 Canadian National Team and representing her country at the Pan American Cup this summer,” said head coach Danijela Tomic. “Jessica had a fantastic freshman year as a Falcon last fall, but the best is yet to come. She is driven to be the best that she can be, and this international experience will help her tremendously on that journey. We wish her and Team Canada all the best in Mexico next week and will be rooting for them from BG!”

As a freshman with the Falcons in 2022, Andrews earned All-MAC Second Team honors as well as making the MAC All-Freshman Team. Over the course of the season, she was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week four times and made the Hampton Inn Invitational All-Tournament Team. Andrews played 110 of BGSU’s 118 sets, leading the team in every block category with 22 solo blocks, 120 block assists and 142 total blocks. She topped the MAC in blocks per set with a mark of 1.29 with her 120 block assists leading the conference as well.
