John W. Thompson, aged 86 of Pemberville, Ohio passed away peacefully Saturday, July 8th surrounded by his loving family.
Born on August 27th, 1936 in Cecil, Ohio, to the late Donald & Cathrine Thompson, he married Elisabeth Hillenbrand on June 2nd, 1962, she preceded him in death.
After graduating from Macomber High School in Toledo, John joined the U.S. Navy and served 8 years. He started his career as an electrician and retired from the Local 8 IBEW in Toledo. He was a “Lifetime” member of the NMLRA, NRA, American Legion Post #183, and the High Hill Sportsman Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, Sprint & NASCAR racing as well as spending time with all of his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters, Sylvia (Lee) Cuthbert and Christa C. Thompson of Bowling Green; sisters Joyce Swartz of Lake Placid, Fla., Sue (Jay) Underdown, St. Charles MS; grandchildren: Wesley Roberts & Micheal (Emily) Roberts, Christa E. & Markus A. Thompson; great-grandchildren: Justin & Paisley Roberts, Wade & Mason Mayo, Madysen, Logan, Cara, Mason Thompson; and the Conrad Logan family, Toledo.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Markus A. Thompson & John D. Thompson.
He donated his body to the College of Medicine at the University of Toledo.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.
