BG booming with fun: Fireworks, food, face painting at the fairgrounds Monday

The Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce announced the full schedule of events for the BG BOOM Festival and Fireworks scheduled for Monday.

Stroll the midway at the Wood County Fairgrounds with family, friends and neighbors and enjoy all the activities.

There will be multiple inflatables throughout the festival. There will also be a corn maze, soccer darts, multiple obstacle courses and basketball.

VFW Post 1148 is providing commemorative BG BOOM buttons that can be picked up at the info booth while supplies last.

There will be a variety of games, activities, and face painting provided by Meijer, Wal-Mart, PT Link, Culver’s, Wood County Hospital and Sylvan Learning.

As dusk falls, the attention will shift to the fireworks show, performed by Rozzi Fireworks. Due to the support of the City of Bowling Green, this year’s fireworks display has been extended to an almost 30-minute show.

The Bowling Green Area Community Band, directed by Thom Headley, will return to this year’s event, offering a selection of patriotic tunes starting at 7 p.m. in the Grove. The show will be led off by the Jazz Band, followed by the Community Band.

During the show, Crazy Craig Juggling will perform his “Best Of” juggling show. For 30 minutes following the performance, Crazy Craig will make balloon animals.

The Wood County Agricultural Society has planned for nine food trucks to be on site and open from 4-11 p.m., or until their food supplies run out.

The food truck lineup includes Frank’s Fries, Off the Rails, Loaded Cone, Rolling Lemonade, Mr. Melon, Poppin’ George Kettle Corn, Simply Delish, Big Daddy Sausage, Manny’s Munchies and Entsminger Concessions.

Stop by State Bank’s GIVES Truck for a root beer float, located next to the Pratt Pavilion; these cold treats will be offered for a donation to the BG BOOM Fireworks and Festival.

The Wood County Agricultural Society is also organizing a trolley shuttle to run from 4-9 p.m. from the North Gate to the Beef Producers Barn.

They are also once again hosting the All-American Camping Celebration, with family activities planned all weekend for anyone camping, and campsites under the fireworks. A military vehicle display will also be available for viewing for most of the weekend near the front gate of the Fairgrounds.

This year, thanks to the support of the Wood County Hospital, a first aid tent will be situated near the main entrance of the fairgrounds.

At dusk, the fireworks will once again be launched from the Northwest Ohio Tractor Puller Association’s property.

It is highly recommended for those planning to watch the fireworks to park in the east and north parking lots of the fairgrounds off Brim Road. Enter these lots through Gate E, which is off Brim Road and across from Christopher Drive. This parking area will provide an unobstructed view for the fireworks.

Additional parking will be available in the lot across from the fairgrounds on Poe Road. This parking area is convenient for those going to the festival, but does have trees that obstruct the view of the fireworks. The north and east parking lots are recommended for the best firework viewing. There will not be volunteers guiding parking in the Poe Road parking lot.

With over 125 years of experience, Rozzi has become one of the top fireworks display companies in the industry. Their commitment to innovation and dedication to their craft has earned them multiple awards for their displays around the world. Rozzi Fireworks produces and executes over 300 pyrotechnic displays annually from Cincinnati to all corners of the globe.

No unauthorized persons will be allowed in any area that is marked with caution tape around the cement barricades. The Wood County Sheriff’s Office will be present within the fairground parking area to assist in enforcing these precautions.

All outside pyrotechnics (fireworks) including novelty items, such as sparklers, poppers and smoke bombs are banned on fairground property, including all parking areas. Golf carts also are not permitted on the grounds for this event, except for those being utilized by the organizers.

Volunteers are still needed to help with set up, information tent, groundskeeping and parking. Volunteers are also needed for grounds cleanup on Tuesday. Visit bgchamber.net to sign up.

A rain date for the fireworks is scheduled for Wednesday. Festival activities will not be rescheduled to the rain date.

The event is presented by the City of Bowling Green and the chamber with the support of Patriotic Sponsors: Visit BG Ohio, Bates Recycling, Ohio Logistics, State Bank, Belleville Brothers Meats, Wal-Mart as well as the collaboration of the Wood County Agriculture Society and the Northwest Ohio Tractor Pullers Association.
